I enjoyed the authors writing far too much. Reading a whole article about going to the dentist wasn't in the plan today, but here we are!
Re:Benchmarking Opus 5 on SlopCodeBench on Monday July 27, 2026 @09:07PM (#49077955)
To what degree is this a harness/system prompt problem? Models maybe should implement new stuff with as little impact on the existing stuff as possible by default? A simple system prompt for it to always check the code after task completion for proper simplifications, abstractions and cleanups before returning to the user? Instructions to retain "story like" readability of the code.
A lot of the reason why concrete structures have failed so quickly is that the material was still fairly new when most of the structures failing now were created. There’s nothing that says that well designed and constructed modern high performance polymer modified concretes will have the same problems. They also have additives like zypex paste that make it more waterproof and self healing. They also have permeable formwork liners for increasing the surface density of the concrete and chemical concrete hardeners etc.

My understanding is that it is not mesh, it’s Gaussian Splatting. There are tools to convert Splats into mesh though.

Do LLM's always pick the most probable next word? I would have thought this would lead to having the same output for every input? How does this deal with the randomness that you get from prompting the same thing over and over?
I live in South Australia and I feel like public toilets are ubiquitous and still increasing in number. Mostly they are either accessible or have a separate accessible toilet. The only exception to this is in areas where they have public social issues. My mum is a little bit financial about toilets so she always struggles when overseas. We even have small self cleaning toilets at the small playgrounds in the suburbs. It would be interesting to understand why we ended up like this.
I wonder if anvils will be the breakout product for this technology. It seems like it should be.
Interesting comment. Can you expand on it?
I still do not understand how something so significantly more expensive and less ambitious will compete with Starlink or even be viable? Will they make their $$ back ever?

And now, only a few years on, the FTTN is already slowly getting replaced at great expense making the FTTN a colossal waste of money. Turnbull knew better as other places on earth already tried FTTN and removed it. The cost of putting power to all the nodes was excessive and ongoing power bills eventually expensive too. FTTP was passive at the nodes. The only argument was that it was planned to be a quicker rollout which didn’t eventuate either. Total shit show.

Start one! Everyone who mentions them should start one. Work super hard to get it started, deal with all the politics and then get voted out.

The only way is to stop preaching and listen to them. Really listen. This is how Daryl Davis converted the KKK according to his own accounts?

Competition will push prices to almost zero too ideally. This is how capitalism should work. Technologically driven deflation is key but cronyism likes to mess with it and try prevent it thus the complex financial system.

Why would this comment get down voted?

On the internet to promote herself with a photo of them at the end. I felt a strong sense of irony at the end of the story.
Is this still true since the Maxwell acquisition? My understanding was that this lead to some new IP for the batteries and processes?

Re:Some People Pay $30 to Get a Referral for Google on Friday August 23, 2019 @09:15PM (#20784500)
Would any google employee really care about earning $30 for the headaches it could potentially cause?
Although it’s confusing as they say it’s £0.08/mile so the bit the exchange must be cheap but something else in there is expensive?
Being that it’s not rechargeable and cost £60/kWh.. does that make a 60kWh recharge $3600? If so it is a very expensive ‘tank of gas’ equivalent?

Is the New GSuite Gmail Interface an EPIC Business Risk?

While looking at my email on my iPhone I noticed an import email that I had not noticed on my PC all day. I tend to live in my email to some degree so I found it very surprising. When I arrived back at my computer I went looking for the email in my inbox. Initially I could not find the email. I eventually found it in the "Forums" category. The gmail app had decided this important email was a...

Should probably note that most people cant get 100/40, are on ADSL3.5 (VDSL2) and the NBN Co only guarantee 25/5... for $51 bn. The network was already antiquated before they even began building it and will need to spend another $51bn right away to install labours FTTH. Their pipe dreams about 5G saving the day are rubbish. Its so bad some politician thought it reasonable to charge the AU ppl $35k/yr for his internet bill at home(4G + over data). /sigh
Has constructive interference of multiple low frequency sound sources been considered? It could be that they are all undetectable on their own but cause localized areas to have a much higher amplitude sound? I guess reflections of the sounds in the right areas could have a similar effect?
