They have to convince CTOs etc they’ll be left behind. The products they’re selling won’t sell fast enough on merit.

The only sources of these “it works flawlessly” I know of are:

- literal Claude ads I see online

- my underperforming coworkers whose code I’ve had to cleanup and know first hand that no, it wasn’t flawless

This kind of sentiment is gaslighting CTOs everywhere though. Very annoying.

Transitioning? That happened post WW2. How many more wars in the Middle East do we need to convince people?

Though, I think it’s hard for Marcus’ generation to see this. Odd given Vance’s connections to Thiel et al.

Is there definitive proof of long term productivity gains with no detriment to defects, future velocity, etc?

If so I’d say you’re irresponsible at best to put this much trust in a tool that’s been around for a few months (at the current level). Absolutely encourage experimentation, but there’s a trillion dollar marketing hype machine in overdrive right now. Your job is to remind people of that.

Are you suggesting “And Claude, make no mistakes” works?

Because otherwise you need an expert operating the thing. Yes, it can answer questions, but you need to know what exactly to ask.

> This has been known to be possible for decades, as (simplifying a bit) the (non-technical) manager can order the engineer in natural, ambiguous language what to do and they will do it

I have yet to see vibe coding work like this. Even expert devs with LLMs get incorrect output. Anytime you have to correct your prompt, that’s why your argument fails.

This implies programming is done and there will be no other advancements.

And flattening is being seen, no? Recent advancements are mostly from RL’ing, which has limitations (and tradeoffs) too. Are there more tricks after that?

Yes, but knowing how to scope your changes requires a lot of expertise.
