Hey, that's my desk! And my wife's handwriting :)
We make a time series database service: http://tempo-db.com Although not open source, many people who've struggled with open source tools end up using us.
Re:Rich Hickey: The Value of Values on Tuesday August 14, 2012 @07:58PM (#4383697)
Has anyone seen a Sales CRM implemented with a temporal+value approach? Seems quite useful for tracking movement through a funnel.
Most of my music is in iCloud, so it shows up in CloudPlay, but it doesn't actually play. Any way that CloudPlay can fetch songs in iCloud?

I read the title as a basketball metaphor, not baseball, and it still worked. The power of sports metaphors.
Re:Groupon IPO on hold on Tuesday September 06, 2011 @06:03PM (#2967472)
Yes, that makes it interesting. Which is better for previous investors: IPO bomb or another private market raise?
Re:Groupon IPO on hold on Tuesday September 06, 2011 @05:27PM (#2967365)
A theory: Groupon leaked the memo so that it would be forced to pull the IPO, similar to Wired in 1996.
Do I understand correctly that both parties need to have Kik installed on their phones as well?
Re:Ask HN: how do you share news stories you like? on Wednesday May 04, 2011 @12:59AM (#2512848)
I find myself emailing news stories to the same email group over and over, but unable to find a history of what we talked about.
Re:Pay With A Tweet on Tuesday October 05, 2010 @10:15AM (#1759780)
We launched a feature like this last year; we called it Tweet to Download (demo http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QIngL60r3_M).

At first it did seem like spamming, but I am at peace with it now. It is analogous to the FB Like button. You should only tweet out stuff that you like, and want to share and download.

The key is to give a sample of the product (in our case song clip) before broadcasting to your social network. I think we could even allow full song stream, and still see similar download/tweet numbers.

In a world where musicians don't get real currency, they are asking for your social currency.

There is a typo in the url at the end of the How did your day go? email. Should be ohlife.com/today, not ohlife.come/today

Re:Ask HN: Why do no other laptop manufacturers get it? on Thursday June 10, 2010 @09:53AM (#1420039)
I just got a Dell Vostro 3400, and am quite impressed. Clean design, multitouch trackpad, nice battery. Just missing the MagSafe power. It's the first PC laptop I could imagine myself using every day, if I couldn't use a MacBook.

Ask HN: Instapaper for audio?

Has anyone seen something like Instapaper for audio? As a DJ, I'm always listening to new music and mixes from a range of sources. Direct mp3 link, Soundcloud, YouTube, 8tracks, mixcloud, etc.I'd love to click 'Listen later' and build an audio queue that I could stream to my mobile (which is key). The closest thing I could find was huffduffer.com, but that is not what I'm looking for. Do I...

Ask HN: is there a Twitter hashtag reach vanity metric?

Let's say Subway does a Twitter campaign using the hastag #hooraysubway. Is there a site where you can input a hashtag and see everyone who has tweeted it and sum their followers? This campaign "reach" number is mostly a vanity metric, but could be useful for justifying costs to brands.

Re:Ask HN: Please Review My New Social Music Website on Friday February 05, 2010 @10:53AM (#1103795)
We've been running http://bln.kr for over 6 months and haven't had a single DMCA notice.
Re:Ask HN: Review my Startup - imVOX on Friday January 22, 2010 @01:45PM (#1070354)
I am skeptical of using products when it's not clear how they make money.

If you give everything away for free, when will it stop being free? When will the bait and switch occur?

If everything truly is free, how long will you be around?

I wonder how much it costs Facebook to send all of those application notification emails? It seems this announcement is decentralizing the sending of those emails, and putting the onus on companies.
Re:Django-forum on Thursday January 07, 2010 @10:36AM (#1037212)
I started with their socialauth app, and heavily modified it for http://bln.kr. I wanted to allow a user to login with one service, then add additional services to the same account.

Re:Android on x86 on Tuesday July 07, 2009 @05:01PM (#692484)
why are the files split in the first place?
Re:Ask HN: Please review and give thoughts on my app on Thursday June 11, 2009 @02:40PM (#653322)
We expect anyone who makes music to upload. We have a few famous artists like The Streets (http://bln.kr/-skinnermike), some internet famous folks like Levar Thomas (http://bln.kr/-LeVarThomas), and plenty of people just trying to make it. We also have hobbyists who just want to share music with friends.
If PoF is a launchpad to premium dating sites, how do people end up on PoF in the first place? I assumed SEO, and I searched for "dating" and "online dating" but PoF didn't rank high. Maybe they go after more niche keywords.
