I built FinSight because I wanted to analyze my spends, inflow and outflow. But I did not want to upload a statement to a cloud LLM for data privacy.

Finsight provides LLM-assisted transaction categorization without uploading bank or credit card statements to a 3rd Party service.

Architecture: PDF parsing client-side via pdfjs-dist, AI inference via local Ollama/LM Studio API, storage in localStorage/sessionStorage via Zustand. No backend (yet)

A few things I found technically interesting:

1. Context window management is the main challenge with long statements. I'm handling it by chunking transactions and doing a second pass aggregation. It works but it's the messiest part of the codebase — would genuinely value feedback on better approaches.

2. 1B parameter models are sufficient for parsing. 7B models give meaningfully better categorization accuracy. The main constraint isn't model capability — it's context window length with large statements and speed. 3. Personally, Qwen 3 gave me the best results but was the slowest in processing a large file. Gpt-oss-20b was faster but the categorization wasn’t as good. Speed is of course, hardware dependent.

3. PDF statement formats vary enormously between banks. LLM-based extraction handles this variation better than any regex approach I’ve tried.

Caveats: setup requires Ollama or LM Studio plus a model download, which is 20-30 minutes on a fresh machine.

Really cool apology! I wonder why you're choosing this hill to die on with this tone. Belligerence in the original post is what led to this and you're continuing with the same tone. You and your team do deserve to be dunked on

I'm confused. Are you a Gitlab employee or are you addressing a Gitlab employee? Edit: From the parent commenters profile, it appears they are a Gitlab employee. The comment itself was confusing due to the comma after the Gitlab Employee

Are you looking for product managers in Denmark as well? (Lever shows only in SFO but I'm still checking :) )
Is it just me or is that article extremely sub-par? Incomplete and dangling sentences, incoherent structure and muddled phrasing. All in that article. Appears to be super amateurish !
The article's headline does not even make sense:

"Flipkart signs up for Airtel’s Net Neutrality violating Airtel Zero platform"

How does one sign up for Airtel's net neutrality?

Re:Laptop Keyboards, No More Page Up/Down for You on Monday February 16, 2015 @05:23AM (#9056130)
For a design oriented article, it has an absolutely horrible design. The article itself is poorly written with contradictions. For example, the author writes about a 90's IBM Thinkpad but gives a screenshot of a Lenovo Thinkpad. The asus keyboard does have a page up/page down function (The up/down arrow used in combination with the function key provides this functionality)

Flipboard showing East European language articles for HN feed

I verified it on a colleagues phone (I have an Android phone, he has an iPhone) and both of us are seeing entries from ~2 days ago and all entries are in a East EU. Every Single Article. Is anyone else seeing this? Is this something at Flipboard's end?ETA: A quick search of Twitter shows that I'm not alone and other folks are seeing this.A screenshot of what I'm seeing -...

Audio Technica ATH-M50X Just got it recently and they're awesome. They do not have active noise cancellation. Since they are over the ear, they cover the ear and with a good set of ear pads, they block out all office noise (unless you work in manufacturing ;) )

Based on reviews that I've read (not compared personally) they are much better than comparable beats.

These cans are a tad on the expensive side but worth it

It is also worth mentioning that http://www.areweprivateyet.com/ is created and maintained by Evidon, the makers of Ghostery (and unfortunately, they have no placed any obvious disclaimer except the footer mention and the top right ghostery logo which is not entirely sufficient imo

Caching or CDN does not help in squeezing out JS performance (actual JS execution and not n/w performance)

You should check out http://reddit.com/r/headphones and ask there for suggestions. That's a pretty good subreddit with helpful folks who seem to know their stuff
I wonder if there is an ifttt e-mail recipe for this?
