Misread the title at first as "to finance AI bailout".

Yes, yes, it a family office vehicle. First time?
Re:OpenAI discloses four more rogue incidents on Saturday October 17, 2026 @01:45PM (#50133234)
You know, at some point it's pretty obviously just willful negligence.

> The snails, which actually grow to about eight inches in length, but can stretch—if nothing else, for headline-writing purposes—to nine inches, have worried Florida authorities since 1969.

Delightfully self-aware.

More of a Mistral fan, I take it?

Consider over 30 years of protecting the Linux project from idiots and vultures.

The combativeness is a feature, not a bug.

Re:Why is every rationalist blog post way too long? on Wednesday October 14, 2026 @02:34AM (#50083279)
Most of them are too smart to have brief thoughts, but not smart enough to have succinct ones.

There's also rhetorical advantage in spewing so much stuff that you snow your reader under a blizzard; what's worse, some of that tends to be true.

I think that's the core of a big criticism of Starcraft. After a certain point, it almost becomes a rhythm game.

The actual depth of the units was also smaller, compared to the fairly rich dynamics of TA.

This doesn't make it a worse game, but it is distinctly different.

I am so sorry about the title but HN wouldn't accept the full-length one and I couldn't figure out a better way to chop it down.

"If your team is too busy doing their 'normal job' to experiment with AI, you're preparing them to be replaced".

Tiny Glade is great, and it looks like Tunnet is on there too.

What are some good games made with Bevy?

> This was the foundation of the Western mind: our math, our science, our medicine. Our philosophy, ethics, and religion. It paved the way for the gospel of Jesus Christ to find fertile soil in Europe and flourish into the empire of Christendom.

...most of which was brought back by the Islamic world, at the time.

> This is the classical understanding of politics and of statecraft that the Trump Administration hopes to reclaim – reclaim not just for our country, but for the whole of our civilization.

I think we have rather more in common with Rome than Greece...

> We see it in the legendary stand of 300 Spartans – surrounded and hopelessly outnumbered by the vast armies of Persia – who refused the chance to save themselves, choosing to fight to the last man rather than abandon their post or abandon their duty.

...I take that back, we are following the great tradition of losing to the Persians.

> And so we must rebuild our institutions and our alliances to face these threats together

No threat quite so large as your boss, Marco, you fucking quisling.

Re:Zig v0.17.0 on Friday October 02, 2026 @06:53PM (#49939585)
Back in a more adult age, the way that this was handled was "We've benefited from our past collaboration, but we believe a new direction is needed going forward."

For some reason--COVID brain rot, poorly-socialized people coming online, general increase in viciousness in the population, who knows!--people have forgotten the utility and purpose of boring polite manners and communication.

Just don't be surprised if the project BFDL talks shit about you or your company later.

(Still a good language though, credit where credit is due.)

Re:Japan officially overhauls permanent residency rules on Wednesday September 30, 2026 @04:28PM (#49913919)
Probably to avoid the perceived issues other places have run into. You can always attempt to reverse a population crisis peacefully--you cannot reverse a migration crisis in the same way or with favorable optics. So, better to get ahead of it.
Fair enough--so then, which successful nation has existed that prioritizes the individual over the nation's laws in any capacity?

Which successful nation has eschewed the idea of the greater good?

(And to your point--this absolutely has been perverted in various cases to justify atrocious behavior! It is necessary but not sufficient in order to govern well and righteously and be a successful country.)

No, no, answer the question posed--which country has prospered by putting other countries first?
Has there ever been a prosperous and successful country that has not put its own nation first?
Re:What Happened to the Snowden Archive on Monday September 21, 2026 @02:10AM (#49783589)
Perhaps a bit ahistorical, but I'm put in mind of the quote "Not even Masada began as a suicide attempt."

Interesting times indeed.

Re:What Happened to the Snowden Archive on Monday September 21, 2026 @01:24AM (#49783338)
The current success of red team and Trump in the US is an excellent example of this from the last decade--one can make the argument that blue team failed to recognize the actual pecking order, and pushed too far and too hard, and now have gotten their teeth kicked in as a result.

(Which is bad, because red team under Trump has no actual talent for boring, effective governance at a time when it is sorely needed. Near inarguably, they're actively bad at it.)

Re:The "omarchy" stuff is getting weird and weirder on Monday September 14, 2026 @12:29AM (#49692005)

Open source, where anyone can compile it and use it as they want must be destroyed. It's not open when the "openness" is used against you. We must be in charge, we must be those who decide who can use the fruit of our work.

I admit it won't be easy or nice, but it's necessary. We need to background check everyone. Every user of our work. Get back to the roots. You allow your friend to use your code and your work. You allow trusted people only. It will still be free to use in terms of money, not free in the terms it's for everyone. Because "free speech" in only a tool to inject fascism to our society. Free as in "free beer" not free as in "bring your fascism"

We will need centralized registry of all users, which would have another benefit in driving corporations out. Are you from Amazon? Supporting zionist genocide in Palestine? Sorry, you are not welcome here, you are not "free" to use our code.
Assuming that this isn't a setup, this article and this author and this sentiment exactly validates the fears of the "keep politics out of open source" people. This is where it leads, taken to its logical conclusion, if you don't do so.
Let us assume this goes through. China and other countries are unlikely to enforce it or extradite.

However well-intentioned, unilateral disarmament is always a sucker's bet.

...making a kitten tangled up on a networking cabinet was fun.

Some of us find opportunities for the small joys that help offset the background radiation of despair.

It doesn't work like that, especially in the US. Look into A2P and 10DLC and The Campaign Registry.

tl,dr; SMS is undergoing the same regulatory/spam problems email faced two decades ago.
