If you are a self-reliant individual with few needs, it can be destructive for you to associate indiscriminately with others as you are likely to end up in lopsided relationships where you are exploited and relied on more than you rely on others. You need to be very careful in selecting your friends to create balanced relationships, a task which requires a non-trivial amount of energy which can sometimes be put to better use in other pursuits.

I don’t understand, what is the point of doing this? Eliminating ads? Expanding functionality? It’s not clear from the description what is to be gained from jail breaking your LG tv. I’m perfectly satisfied with it now.

The downvotes aren’t helping either. True in life too, stress can become a vicious cycle leading to disastrous outcomes. That’s why turning the other cheek, so to speak, sometimes can help break that cycle. Have an upvote!

Re:The Science Behind Why Some Are Shy

I would add that it's a handicap with no accessibility. Many designs are undertaken with physical handicap, disabilities and disorders in mind. Rarely is shyness accommodated in like fashion or treated as a handicap to be accepted. The prevailing sentiment is that it's a feeling that can be outgrown (eg. we often hear the phrase "don't be shy" as if it's something a person has complete control over).

To your first point, if a cynic prefers to credit more than a single foundation or individual for those gains, then that must be so benevolent of them to think so well of a greater number of people. Let us all be cynics then.

My retired father had been following the archives for "Learn to program: The fundamentals", and after completing 3 weeks of work, the coursepage was suddenly taken down (https://class.coursera.org/programming1-001/class). It looks like they just started a new iteration of the course and decided to remove the old one without notice. Needless to say, this experience took away from his belief and excitement in online learning (something which he had recently discovered).
