> Getting locked into a product that is pressured to achieve VC returns and thus becomes enshittified. There is no moat here and it's painfully obvious that open source will win in this category in the long term.

Herdr is...open source? and is also compatible with the free software principles. So where is the "lock in"?

You have not answered how will Herdr (and others) fund themselves to maintain the project without some form of sustainable funding without VC funding?

Not that I support VC funding per se, but without meaningful donations to support the maintainers, this is usually what they end up doing.

Re:Show HN: Run full iOS 16.5 firmware on Android Devices on Thursday October 22, 2026 @12:28PM (#50197611)
I found the website to be quite nauseating to look at, so I decided to use the GitHub link instead.

But it's quite impressive that it works on QEMU, POCO X5 Pro 5G and some Xiaomi devices too.

Re:US military reveals it has weapons in space on Monday September 14, 2026 @09:32PM (#49706620)

Re:A Figma clone built by GPT-6 Astra on Sunday September 06, 2026 @02:06AM (#49583778)
More info from the author in this tweet: https://x.com/wieslawsoltes/status/2096360873270837346

The output is quite astonishing and makes me wonder if Figma and pure software companies could be in trouble with GPT-6 Astra vibecoding full working clones of products in minutes.

Re:Ask HN: Would you read a statistics textbook? on Sunday September 06, 2026 @01:29AM (#49583598)
It depends on what parts of statistics is being taught and the application of each of the leanings and how it relates to the real world.

More generally, I would buy a statistics if it is linked to today's interesting technological breakthroughs and also if it comes as a distilled version for beginners.
