Re:US DOT deleting bike lane references on Monday July 27, 2026 @07:52PM (#49077281)
Just last week in Texas:

The driver, identified as 31-year-old Charles Medina, then sped past the couple from behind. Rapp’s boyfriend responded to the maneuver by raising his hands and yelling, at which point Medina slammed his brakes, skidded to a stop and accelerated in reverse. Medina ultimately hit Rapp so forcefully that his “rear windshield was shattered completely”. He also allegedly left skidmarks from having “rapidly accelerated backwards” as well as apparently “steering towards something while backing up”. Emergency responders found Rapp unresponsive and lying face down in the roadway. She was pronounced dead after being taken to a hospital.

So far I’ve only encountered one site that blocked automated access to its web feed. I assume that was just an oversight.

It is possible to define a custom locale with these features, e.g. https://andrew.kvalhe.im/2022-09-09

  $ echo "$LANG"; date
  en_US.UTF-8@aspirational
  2026-07-02T11:17:00-07:00
“⎄---”

My computer doesn’t make .DS_Store files. If yours does, it’s your responsibility to not litter the codebase with them.

Corollary: My computer does make other kinds of files, and you’d never know it.

Same experience. “No feed found.” I chuckled at the irony and closed the tab.

How is this possible? Do they test sending to a few random addresses?

It’s some consumer loyalty scheme for a chain retailer? Depressingly distant from the “bicycle for the mind” I’d dreamed of.

Until you see the scale bar

I just keep a custom stylesheet that annotates usernames with various emoji. Most of the time I update it as I read, but occasionally I’ll peruse the hidden comments to note e.g. uncharitable participation and revealed bigotry.
