That's a small part of what's being litigated. The rest of what's being litigated is unfair trade practices, monopolization, promissory estoppel, defamation, and computer fraud/abuse. (Seriously, there are 18 causes of action in the Third Amended Complaint, which is here: https://storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.uscourts.cand.43... . There are also counterclaims, which are here: https://storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.uscourts.cand.43... )

Hey, that's me! Unfortunately that's only reasonably complete through mid-February of 2025; i had some health issues and was never able to catch back up.
If the Industrial Revolution (which people keep using as a comparator) is any guide, it's going to be more like 100-200 years in a depressing unemployed hellscape!

Counterpoint: ITAR. DeCSS. People have literally been arrested for publishing numbers.

Thanks, yeah, this is definitely a bug or something.
I am on the moderation team at Treehouse. Marcan has not violated any of our community guidelines and he categorically was not suspended from our Fediverse instance. He chose to delete his own account.
It got restored at about 5:30pm PST on Friday evening: https://x.com/wp_acf/status/1867761686389604368

Mullenweg posted a whiny tweet about it: https://x.com/photomatt/status/1867759730992586756

Both spellings are considered correct, although i personally prefer 'judgment'.
That evidence exists, in Yifan's case; i have personally seen receipts. Unfortunately i'm still banned on HN so probably nobody will see this.
These people never want to acknowledge the fact that programming used to be near-universally "women's work", right up until dudes decided it was cool and stole it from us. CS admissions used to be more than 40% women!
In a court of law, personal testimony is evidence. It isn't necessarily compelling by itself, but the idea that it isn't evidence because you don't like it is not actually how the legal system (or culture) works.
It was a job interview.

Also Ozark English! Which is a super interesting dialect, it turns out.

There is no "litote". "Litotes" is not a plural noun.
Re:Why is Russia so good at encouraging women into tech? on Monday April 24, 2017 @10:58PM (#14190411)
This is incredibly misogynist and unfortunately par for the course around here.

They won't be able to provide, because it turns out the differences basically evaporate when you control for the financial stability of the households. It's just that one-parent households (especially in the US) tend to be a hell of a lot less financially stable than two-parent households.

So ... just like the USA, then?
Hitler got basically all of his ideas about eugenics from the US. In a very real sense we did "birth Hitler".

*Sturgeon's Revelation. Sturgeon's Law was actually something else Ted said: "Nothing is always absolutely so."
We've been controlling our fertility since the beginning of recorded history. There's a plant, silphium, that went extinct in the ancient Near East because it was overharvested as an effective abortifacient.
You might be shocked at the amount of misogyny men in their 30s and 40s think is acceptable. (Also, contra 'amyjess - some of the conservative fields, in particular finance and law, are also hideously sexist & contain a ton of harassment.)
Re:Designing a Business Card in LaTeX on Saturday February 11, 2017 @10:09PM (#13626435)
PageMaker has been dead software for like 10 years now, fwiw. InDesign is the modern replacement.
Re:The open-office trend is destroying the workplace (2014) on Sunday February 05, 2017 @10:43PM (#13576332)
More seriously: You complain that your kids bother you any time you try to work from home, and how that's just intolerable. But your wife apparently puts up with it every day. They probably bug the shit out of her too - she's just doing that without whining to you about how haaarrrd it is. Implying that what makes her a "saint" isn't "putting up with her kids" so much as it is "putting up with you".
Re:The open-office trend is destroying the workplace (2014) on Sunday February 05, 2017 @10:38PM (#13576316)
If you had a full-time nanny you'd just be exploiting someone else, and that's not really better! (Although at least she'd be getting paid.)
...sure it would? Cooperatives of various sorts are a time-tested method of corporate organization, and plenty of them exist as corporations and make money in capitalist systems.
Re:The open-office trend is destroying the workplace (2014) on Sunday February 05, 2017 @08:34PM (#13575898)
Women who put up with this aren't "saints", they're just being exploited by their partners.

Modern medicine also uses leeches.[1] Their saliva is a natural anticoagulant and their sucking promotes oxygenation.

Pinker isn't an anthropologist, and his statements about "universal" gender roles across every fucking society in history are false. Common, sure. Universal, nope.
Re:Vancouver house prices are falling on Saturday February 04, 2017 @08:53PM (#13570331)
Yes but the whole point is that that's only "worthwhile" for you, and it contributes to fucking everyone else in the housing market over.
