Just wanted to share a little utility I made to scratch my own itch. Having worked on a multi-repo setup, starting a project was sometimes a bit of a chore and having a lot of terminal windows open can sometimes be annoying. It could've been done with tmux probably, but it was a fun exercise for me :-)
Why not use a motorcycle engine?
I try to complete them faster :)

You could use Hookdoo[0] or Hookdeck[1] as a replayable buffer / log :-)

Good luck Alex, hope you prepared your servers for the HN's hug of death :)))

6 years ago, I made a tool to automate staging server deploys on git push, and then open-sourced it.

And someone used it to automate their robot vacuum cleaner when they press the amazon dash button :)
Author never heard of Electrical Engineers? I have graduated at Faculty of Electrical Engineering, the Computer Science department, and got a title of a Master of Electrical Engineering. Pretty sure I can call myself an engineer...
IANAL but have her email them and ask for all the data they have on her. They should be obliged to comply according to GDPR laws?

Yeah, my guess is that they share the same concept - expose triggers via HTTP(s) to run user commands. The webhook handling put on some additional requirements on my project: to go a little bit beyond piping the input to the script :-)
I did something very similar for handling webhooks (but can also be used for anything else), check it out at
https://github.com/adnanh/webhookPeople have used it in various segments, from actual deployments on push, to home automation, someone even wrote a guide on how to control the Xiaomi Robot Vacuum using the Amazon Dash button :-)
Oh yeah, I feel you! I was also on DALnet, and saw the exodus to other networks, EFnet, IRCnet, Undernet, QuakeNet... But as you said, they just didn't feel "right". I.e. some of them had "weird-looking" services as opposed to the DALnet's ChanServ, NickServ etc... :-)
Do you remember "PHP-Nuke" craze, everyone was creating community portals where members were able to post news, polls, etc...
Good old times :)
Posted this for sentimental reasons, it hits all the right spots when reading these quotes.

I've had a similar idea after looking for something like this to use as a log for interesting stuff that I found on the internet. I ended up building a small ruby app for this (
https://github.com/adnanh/mikro) and it powers my (b)log which is still alive at
http://blog.hajdarevic.net/Since then, I've wanted to enhance it with URL unfurling, link preserving in terms of creating a snapshot of the linked URLs, smart bookmarklet etc... but never got around to doing it, as life tends to get busy, and other things take priority over that :-(
I'm re-reading the threads, and I can't stop wondering if this whole mess could have been avoided by simply posting a "Ask HN: As a TripleByte user, would you mind having a default public profile..." question here on HN? Anyway, I still believe that asking your target audience for an opinion is a better way than trying to think instead of them. Steve Jobs might have gotten away with that, but we are not Steve Jobs, or Apple for that matter... Not trying to say that Steve didn't listen to the audience though, I bet he did, but he had some strong opinions on how something should be.
Just curious, did you have any engineers/product owners telling you that you should probably not do this feature, especially not push so hard (doing stuff late on Friday that can easily wait for Monday, etc...) to get it out?
