Re:LinkedIn shares drop 40%, erasing $10B of company's value on Friday February 05, 2016 @12:02PM (#11042724)
I'm going to endorse them for "Creating Value for Shareholders."
Re:The Wrong Abstraction on Friday February 05, 2016 @08:15AM (#11041139)
If only Programmer B had avoided that initial choice to preserve the broken abstraction rather than abandoning it then and there.

He must have been practicing Deadline Driven Development.

Thanks, I had no idea!
Re:Swift Snares and How to Avoid Them on Thursday January 28, 2016 @10:00AM (#10988497)
Hope the dynamic/static dispatch issues around protocol extensions get sorted out--the current state is pretty lousy.
It would be nice to have something in our arsenal against dengue fever. I will be interested to see how effective this is.
Re:Why the calorie is broken on Wednesday January 27, 2016 @11:20AM (#10980866)
Excellent point. And this calibrating is a key point as you lose weight--once you drop a significant amount you've got to revise your calorie intake down a commensurate amount.

Estimation is good enough as long as you monitor your progress and tweak it if it's not getting you results.

Re:Why the calorie is broken on Wednesday January 27, 2016 @11:17AM (#10980846)
Exactly right. It's all about the BMR and while calorie-counting alone won't get you ideal nutrition it is absolutely enough to control weight.

I counted my calories with MyFitnessPal last spring and dropped 25 pounds. Consistent, long-term caloric deficit is the answer, except no substitutes.

This is pretty sad Apple.
Re:Why do people put on differing amounts of weight? on Tuesday January 26, 2016 @10:36AM (#10973887)
Very interesting.

Startup idea: stool sample testing and custom diet design via a mobile app.

I call "not it" for the stool testing part. I'll work on the mobile app instead.

Seems like this should be easily fixable by making it the app developer's decision via CoreLocation.

If the app developer in turn wants to allow the user to modify that setting, then more power too them.

I am an Apple fan and iOS developer, but I completely agree.

Reach is exactly right. Also good for audience building.

That said, I agree with most of the complaints about Medium as well.

Oh man, I'm going to be using that "Views, loadable from XIB" tip now.
Re:Swift Named Parameters on Monday January 18, 2016 @03:03PM (#10926532)
This is the best explanation I've seen anywhere about why you sometimes need to provide the parameter name for the first parameter in a func and when you don't.
Re:Speed reading promises are too good to be true on Monday January 18, 2016 @03:01PM (#10926517)
I can't imagine that it's possible for me to inhibit subvocalization. It seems intrinsic to the way I read.
Re:Fitbit Takes on the Apple Watch with the Blaze on Monday January 18, 2016 @02:57PM (#10926494)
I use the Sync Solver app to push my FitBit data into HealthKit.

I have both an Apple Watch and a FitBit Surge. The Apple Watch is the better smart watch, but the Surge is a much better fitness device and you can actually see workout data in a meaningful way. At this point, I definitely need both.
