> I see it as a positive that AI will push folks to think about verification (you cannot truly trust the AI, after all), observability (verifying that the thing actually works in production), architecture (we’ll generate more code, faster, and it’ll need to be organized) and constraints (when shipping faster, you hit constraints faster around resource usage, performance, reliability, etc.)

I resonate with this. Especially when working with a local LLM that isn't as sharp as frontier models, verification is essential. I try to enforce a strict project structure with clean docs that avoid keeping old "2 weeks ago we fixed X by doing Y" type comments. Creating tools and processes to ensure each step is correct before moving on, which includes tests for every major functionality. These help the agent stay on track and within the guardrails.

It's pretty neat, and fun to browse through a JavaScript implementation of a beloved CPU architecture. [0]

You are correct and I rescind my hasty comment.

Why not? It's historical, but it's not like we need to keep it around at this point.

Key quotes:

> Calif has not publicly released the jailbreak. Calif security researcher Stefan Esser told German site Heise that there won't be a jailbreak tool available for "end users," but a proof of concept may be forthcoming.

> Esser said the iOS 27.0.1 jailbreak used bugs Calif has already disclosed or plans to disclose to Apple soon, and "most" of the vulnerabilities are fixed in the upcoming iOS 27.2 update. AI was used to help develop the jailbreak, but Esser didn't explain how.

Oh absolutely. By the time it becomes "do you accept <terms>?" It's actually "we already did this, can you confirm your consent?"

If you say no, the secret is "we already did it".

Imagine focusing on a distant people to people connection. Who did what?! They did that? A thing they did? I must focus on it and devote time to this.
Did you have any particularly good cassette players?
PS3 is a great Blu-ray player IMO. Solid console, solid controller, good laser implementation. Just pop it in and it Just Works.

Seeing a native Blu-ray (god I hate typing that out) on my then 1080p Panny Plasma was a sight to behold. The quality was fantastic, incredible detail and color in a dark room. I miss the console, the television, and the couch I sat on. All of that is gone. But I still remember the glory of seeing it for the first time.

"might" === "absolutely will", just for the record.

Company made a thing. Remixed it a decade later. Fanfare.
Re:16-bit fully functional DIY magnetic core memory on Sunday October 18, 2026 @08:50PM (#50147086)
FRAM is handy for replacement N64 Controller Paks where the capacity only needs to be 256Kbit / 32 KB, such as the FM28V020-SG used in this project:

https://github.com/Element18592/N64-FRAM-Memory-Pak

Not me, but I'd like to get a Token Ring network setup for my retro PC lab and try some multiplayer games over it. Maybe bridge it into my regular LAN (behind a firewall of course) for testing too.

It's cool to see this expressed all in one place, especially since it combines the US + UK curriculum. I found the repo even more useful to browse: https://github.com/withmarbleapp/os-taxonomy

Re:Topgolf saved over $11.3M after leaving VMware on Friday October 16, 2026 @04:39PM (#50124334)
Nice inference, it sounds like a naturally grown solution. Make an app that controls one golf location or terminal. Grow for X years. One VM + App per terminal. Now there's 100+ VMs per site, multiply by site count, plus admin. No terminal-level refactor that would reduce costs and admin.
Re:Topgolf saved over $11.3M after leaving VMware on Friday October 16, 2026 @04:37PM (#50124302)
Are there numbers regarding Broadcom losses since implementing their "fuck you" policies? I would love to see them, because they are wringing an entire industry dry for a few drops of short term gains.
Re:Topgolf saved over $11.3M after leaving VMware on Tuesday October 13, 2026 @11:52PM (#50082185)
Always enjoy reading a post-Broadcom migration story, congrats to Topgolf for making the move.
Yeah, I would not be surprised at all if there's "if not Chrome UA, show popup" code somewhere.
I quite liked the old Safari for Windows. It felt like bringing over a slice of the Apple ecosystem to the common Windows XP or Vista desktop. You could run Safari and iTunes and have decent parity with (then) Mac OS X for the most common use cases.
Interesting, YouTube runs fairly well on my system with Firefox. I do get the "Experiencing interruptions? Find out why" pop-up often. It's funny though, the only interruption I actually experience is the pop-up. If the pop-up went away, so would all interruptions.
Re:Breaking Bad star RJ Mitte dies aged 34 on Monday October 12, 2026 @08:39PM (#50065064)

Mitte remained unaware of the problem for several years until the IRS notified him of outstanding taxes, penalties, and interest. [0]

Financial difficulties caused by mismanagement. He should have been wealthy and comfortable after his work. I feel terrible for the guy.

The incredible background effects with no JS enabled have me both pondering and accepting of this fantastic display.
I regret that "hackers" were involved here. I wish hackers could be a positive term. People breaking into things for the benefit of others - open models, useful papers, lost media, distributed to the public for the benefit of all.

In this case "hackers" were the type to fuck up a supply chain utilized by the every person for the sake of it. If you have the skills for this, please file a report. Make the world better. But don't just go wrecking a bunch of goods for the lulz like this. It helps no one one, it sours the "hacker" ethos, and it hurts real people.

What am I missing? Of course the user cares if their food has been stored at the proper temperature from production to transit to the shelf. They don't care that this specific implementation clearly had a security vulnerability, they just want to check out and get back to their lives (and not get sick), but there's no way this whole setup was completely unnecessary to produce that desired outcome, flawed or not.

Maybe we throw it all away and go to 1990s-style grocery chain management, hire a bunch of people, and costs go up while reliability and monitoring shifts to humans. But that doesn't mesh with consumer expectations on price, which is probably how the whole system originated.

Yes, my DEV VM tended to fill up with VSCode backups as well. I finally expanded the disk so it's less of an issue today, but for a while ENOSPC was resolved by cleaning up ~/.vscode-server/cli/servers.
Re:MTCP 2026-10-10 Release Notes on Sunday October 11, 2026 @06:26PM (#50048571)
