Ask HN: How pintrest style zoom works
I have been trying to guess how the zoom on pintrest works(not the masonry layout) in js/css.The effect is amazingly good for showing modal boxes, and IMO is the most attractive part of the pintrest site.
Marionette prefers Region managers, and I guess ember does it in a similar way. What the angular way of doing it?
PS: wary of sounding negative - I am just trying to get someone help me convince them next week.
I am trying to convince a client to use angular instead of backbone.
They are however thrown off by the fact that there aren't many startups using it in production. And I can't figure a satisfactory answer to that. Any explanations why is that?
For example, the tendency to religiously follow patterns, over-complicate things.
IMO these concepts come up all the time. A CS degree might help you to know what they are, but not when and how of applying them.
Also plenty of self-taught developers are aware of these patterns. I can't imagine a "good developer" who wouldn't know about FSM, or someone who would use redis without considering time complexity.
I have done both british A levels and CBSE 12, and I can say that both have their own positives. But encouraging critical thought isn't one of them for either.
I had to move most of our apis/background-jobs to node after getting fed up with the concurrency issues that ruby had. This fixes that. Although I don't think it can compare with node/eventmachine on the performance front. But that's ok IMO in most situations.
I am thinking about moving most of our api/background tasks to ruby from node, and using node only for cases that require some sort of proxying - for example proxying an request to a private elasticsearch server after authenticating.

I would also suggest everyone to use the asset pipeline for things like phonegap or pure html5 apps. It makes the entire process so clean and painless.

Always been uncomfortable using tumblr as a programmer. It's not just about absence decent code highlighting, I need some kind of integration with github, need a solid commenting system that integrates with twitter, fb like link posting etc.Which service integrations do you miss? Or which features would want as a professional?
