Re:TurboPython – A Python-to-C++ Compiler on Monday October 05, 2026 @12:53AM (#49960824)
It reminds me of PyPy (https://pypy.org/)

It works as a pure Python runtime, but when comes with issues when integrating with existing libraries who have C/C++ extensions, which is a big one for modern use of Python (Numpy, pandas, you name it)

>The so-called "bear-hug strategy" following October 7 set the stage for everything that's happening now.....Biden could've ended that conflict with a phone call. Both sides have been preparing for the conflict for decades. The bomb that the US used to bomb Iran's nuclear facilities, the GBU-57A/B MOP, began development in the early 2000s[1]. Iran has long supported the Houthis, who have been attacking Saudi Arabia, a key US ally in the Middle East and one of the main suppliers of oil to the West. Iran has been the major competitor to the US, or even the West, for a long period of time. Oct 7 is just a trigger point, like the Sarajevo assassination was the trigger point of WW1.

> Trump blew up the JCPOA that sought to include Iran in the international community for really no reason than to please his donors Indeed, a few of the US allies in the Middle East, like the UAE, Saudi Arabia, as well as Bahrain, expressed concerns over the Iran nuclear deal[2].

We are entering a critical point in time, where Western civilization may not dominate the world anymore like it did for the past 300 years. There will be a lot of instability, though a lot of people fail to recognize that and are underprepared.

Re:Cruller: Bun's Zig Runtime, Continued on Zig 0.16 on Friday July 24, 2026 @01:44AM (#49031602)
I think it's the other way around. Bun is being ported from Zig to Rust for no significant benefit, but just for the sake of using AI. Bun doesn't gain any significant performance improvements. The codebase is now filled with unsafe blocks, which undermines many of Rust's safety guarantees. On top of that, it hasn't undergone enough real-world testing to ensure it works correctly.
Re:Microsoft Needs Windows Lite on Wednesday July 01, 2026 @02:54AM (#48743146)
Indeed there are much more customers than you could imagine in the non-profit/ government sectors paying for that. There are a lot of compliance regulations regarding to data governance that force them to use a clean and lite LTSC version of Windows.
Re:The great memory panic of 2026 – Asymco on Friday May 15, 2026 @04:28AM (#48145992)
The thing is why do they have to do so? In terms of bargaining power, Apple has the best position comparing to other cell phone/ iPad/ PC vendors. Their software are way more memory efficient than the competitors (like Windows 11 with all the bloated Electron/ Webview2 wrappers).
At the same time, Aussie tech giant pauses work, devotes entire week to AI Design software giant Canva has halted normal operations across its 5300-strong global workforce for five days of nothing but AI learning and hackathons, bucking the global wave of technology giants that have slashed jobs, citing the technology. https://www.smh.com.au/technology/aussie-tech-giant-pauses-w...
Re:Copilot Student GPT-5.3-Codex removal from model picker on Wednesday April 29, 2026 @09:51PM (#47957143)
So now, basically, all the frontier models are being removed from GitHub Copilot Student.
Re:Microsoft Hasn't Had a Coherent GUI Strategy Since Petzold on Wednesday April 08, 2026 @04:02AM (#47686893)
I do not think the current computers can catch up with Electron. When it is just one or two simple app it is ok, but when everything is built with Electron (which is happening now) then it is not enough even with 32gb+ ram.
Re:Warren Buffett dumps $1.7B of Amazon stock on Thursday February 19, 2026 @02:13AM (#47070860)
It's not that bad. From a finance and accounting perspective, Amazon’s retail business provides strong synergies with its cloud services. Although the retail segment has a relatively low net profit margin, it generates stable and substantial cash flow for the company. In contrast, cloud services are highly profitable but require significant upfront investment in hardware, and the associated asset depreciation is substantial.

By combining these two businesses, Amazon can achieve a more balanced capital structure. Compared to other cloud service providers such as Oracle, Amazon can maintain a lower debt-to-equity ratio, reduce its debt burden, and sustain stronger overall financial health. At the same time, it can achieve higher overall profit margins compared to traditional retailers like Walmart.

Most AI companies are losing money like the dot com era. They spent a lot on buying chipsets or training models, or paying an unsustainable rate for API access to LLM companies. https://ethanding.substack.com/p/windsurf-gets-margin-called If AI tools are charging the world the cost it should be, then homo sapiens will be way cheaper in most of the cases.
Well deserved.
If you just want to do what awk can do, then you do not really need other packages.

What's the pro of Elixir and Crystal over Ruby?
Re:Is Ruby still worth learning in 2020? on Wednesday January 01, 2020 @09:20PM (#21932446)
What's wrong with versions 2.x? Or what's coming with version 3.x?
Sorry to hear that.

Ask HN: How do you memorize the tons of commands related to rails?

I am currently learning rails. I used to programming in .NET and Java ecosystem and I got good GUI tools/IDEs such as VS and Eclipse. However, when I had come into rails, I found there are tons of commands are needed to memorize before you can use rails efficiently, e.g. rvm commands related to gemsets, rails commands for generating controller and models, rake commands for managing databases,...

Re:Is 'Web 2.0' Another Bubble? 2006 on Monday October 14, 2013 @06:40AM (#6546435)
In fact, I also think that Web 2.0 is a bubble in that time and I still think it was. But luckily, iPhone launched and changed the world.
Re:PHP Sucks But I Like It on Wednesday April 11, 2012 @02:54AM (#3826307)
I love PHP too, I can't agree more for the 'just work' point, besides unicode isn't built in. (It 's really a pain for far east users like me)

Anyone would use OS/400 like me?
Beside Cyberport there is also a place called Science Park which also provide cheap places for start-up. From my second hand information the rent for a 1,000 sq. ft. office is about $1,100 US dollar (electricity inclusive)

I am from HK and if you want to know more about HK you can contact me.

Re:Ask HN: Start-up while having a day job? on Tuesday September 27, 2011 @01:53AM (#3042057)
How can you survive by just 4 - 5hrs sleep? Wont you be sleep during your day time?

Ask HN: Start-up while having a day job?

Currently I am having a regular day job. I have an idea and want to implement it during my spare time. However, I found it extremely difficult to managing them. Everyday I go home and find very tired already. Sometimes I even need to continue to work at home. It is very difficult to spare extra time and brain juice on it. I have once think about to quit the job but I think it is too risky as I...
