The ability of this tiny device to transmit Bluetooth in a 100 meter radius is wild!
The title is hard to understand. It's not disputing that ETH is false. It simplifies the proof that ETH is indeed false.
I don't understand why a glacier would survive longer in the 4°C scenario than 2.5°C but this seems to suggest so.
I got invited to a UN conference on climate change. It was a huge deal of course that I could get in; however, the whole time I "felt" important. Everyone did. I question how many of the tens of thousands of people involved actually did important work.
Everyone knew we will miss the 1.5 degree target, btw. This was a few years ago.
Where Anthropic f'ed up was treating their monetization the way they treat model training. Turns out that success in experimentation is not transferrable.
They have tried to find the highest that the market pays for sota models; however, on the consumer side, this is just too confusing and unsettling:
"You can only use Fable for a week as a part of your plan"
"Be ready! You have to start paying per token!"
"Nevermind! we extended it for a couple more weeks"
"Wait, now it's up to half your usage"
"Ok, now its..."
Most people want to not care. We want our AI like electricity -- Kind of just there no matter how easy/hard is for the supply. You don't want your electricity company to be on the brink of cutting you off any second.
That's Anthropic. You don't feel they want to give you a dependable service for an, albeit premium, price. It's a constant bargaining game. That forces people to look beyond the walled garden. There, they find models that are fine... and without the shenanigans.
There are thriving Ai video communities who are trying to replicate big budget productions with indie resources. Look up Gossip Goblin. There's a parallel explosion of memes at the same time, like Balenciaga Harry Potter
The building science community has not buy and large came to the agreement that the CO2 itself is the cause of the cognitive decline. It could be the Canary in the coal mine telling us there is an accumulation of compounds causing the decline.
Why that matters? You need good ventilation regardless, but instead of just thinking of CO2, try to minimize compounds in your air by selecting things for the room that smell less and off-gas less.
> The new "Plus" plans are tailored to each individual app, with Facebook Plus and Instagram Plus focused more on social expression, while WhatsApp Plus focuses on personalization and messaging.
If only Google Plus lived long enough to see this day...
It looks like the explosion starts from the second stage
My question is, and this is genuinely a question: Do you think YC-backed companies would have respected this guideline if it was posted on some other website they wanted to operate in?
I never understood why we believe humans don't backprop. Isn't it that during the day we fill up our context (short term memory) and sleep is actually where we use that to backprop? Heck, everyone knows what "sleep on it" means.
Using ChatGPT without a clue, it appears to assume you are talking aboutcoming back from the car wash. It reasons, the con for walking is that you have to come back later for the car. And yes, when you say it's an intelligence test, it quickly gets it
This game started slow for me many years ago but I now absolutely love this game. Not just because of all the open source effort that has gone into it, because of the strategy. You have to make yourself vulnerable to get stronger.
Wanna grow fast? Train workers who can't fight, but are resource efficient to make. Risk being badly weakened if getting attacked, for the benefit of the workers giving you much more resources to then raise an army.
Also watch out for the elephants!
I agree with the prepackaging aspect, cita HN's dismissal of Dropbox. In the meantime, The global enterprise with all its might has not been able to stop high profile computer hacks/data leaks from happening. I don't think people will cry over a misconfigured supabase database. It's nothing worse than what's already out there.
Sure everybody wants security and that's what they will say but does that really translate to reduced inferred value of vibe code tools? I haven't seen evidence
> Her framing reflects how CFOs increasingly interpret valuation across multiple dimensions
which of these dimensions was used for employee stock options?
An initially-stupid-sounding idea I heard a while back was running power cables through the ocean floors between America and the rest of the world. It's apparently feasible and the big benefit of it is that at the grid peak hour when the sun is not shining in Europe, they can get cheap solar from America and vice versa
There is an infamous "Dropbox comment" on HN that reads the same way as this comment. No idea is new, and novelty is almost never the point. I had seen people do similar things in the past but never approached it myself. Here is someone that has done the thinking for me and put it out there for free. I appreciate that.
I was not expecting that the prices are going down. Makes sense as the hardware gets older but I always assumed the prices must be inflated given how much competition there is to make new datacenters

Just about a year ago, the concept for a sci-fi book popped into my head. I instantly knew I have to see it through despite not having any writing experience (and a pretty demanding job). Over 2025, I attended writer circles, improved my writing, and structured the story. Here is the first chapter. I hope you enjoy it :)
The problem is that most of the AI labs are popping up in TX that has a uniquely isolated electrical grid. Recall how the Texas cold snap a few years ago took down the grid for days. Turns out if you make a grid based on short term profit motifs, it's not going to be flexible enough to take new demand.
It's not the grid's technological limitation. We could have lived in a world with a more connected grid, more nibble utility commissions, and a lot less methane/carbon emissions as a result of it
This assumes low light conditions are bad for the eyesight. Which _may_ be a thing for children, but that's where the science ends.
This sound like positive news for the Dev community. I can imagine it took a lot of patience and intention to get Meta onboard with this.
When they launched Sora, one of the first things people did was rendering a person holding a cardboard with a message on it. It started by asking for features and eventually turned into people responding to each other.
One conversation I remember was complaining about people who constantly want AI pictures of anime feet.
I think OpenAI is just responding to the users.
While #2 is true, there are a myriad of ways to do that without a press release.
I was impressed to see at the new keynote that Blender is successfully shifting its revenue growth to small donations. So it can be done.
This is my cue to come and say that if you want to purify your home air, please look at the science first. Do NOT just go buy a HEPA. Chances are you'll waste your money and get little clean air.
Look for MERV and CADR ratings for filters. Then spend an afternoon building yourself a CR box with a box fan, or a narrower one with some computer fans. It'll work better than most commercial purifiers.
The A in @ also brings "Address book" to mind

Be kind. Don't be snarky. Converse curiously; don't cross-examine. Edit out swipes.
Comments should get more thoughtful and substantive, not less, as a topic gets more divisive.
When disagreeing, please reply to the argument instead of calling names. "That is idiotic"
I don't know if it's selection/survivor bias, but every time I watch a video about computers from the 60s and 70s, I am amazed how spot on they are with the trajectory of the technology.
Take this CAD demo from MIT back in 1963 showing features that I commonly use today: https://youtu.be/6orsmFndx_o
Then the 80s and 90s rolled in, the concept is computers that entered the mainstream. Imagination got too wild with movies like Electric Dreams (1984).
Videos like this make me think that our predictions of AI super intelligence are probably pretty accurate. But just like this machine, in actuality it may look different.
