Re:Rust off Rails: The opinionated web stack for the AI era on Wednesday October 21, 2026 @01:47PM (#50184871)
well not everything, but one would expect some effort to have a good web from ... a web framework?
not really, the 3pct was just what they scanned with lidars so far.
i am pretty sure its not energy that domaines the move. eg skoda is now way more profitable than rest of VW. The cost of employment is way higher in DE..
I tried it and its definetely not mature enough for me. Too cumbersome to use. But the project speaks to me.
Re:Many "serious" mathematicians are aghast on Tuesday July 28, 2026 @10:13AM (#49084206)
he is a professor at quebec. I am pretty sure he knows serious mathematians that he perhaps does not want to name directly.
Yes but for that you need to focus on the quality. There are probably horrible issues on backend as well.
Re:Long Island's Decommissioned Nuclear Power Plant on Wednesday July 01, 2026 @08:31AM (#48745662)
this gets repeated over and over again but its false:

> Nuclear power plants are routinely used in load following mode on a large scale in France, although "it is generally accepted that this is not an ideal economic situation for nuclear stations".[42] Unit A at the now decommissioned German Biblis Nuclear Power Plant was designed to modulate its output 15% per minute between 40% and 100% of its nominal power.

not really. Most of the technology is not black box but something of a grey box. You usually choose to treat it as a black box because you want to focus on your problems/your customers but you can always focus on underlying technologies and improve them. Eg postgresql for me is a black box but if I really wanted or had need I could investigate how it works.
Re:TikTok's 'Addictive Design' Found to Be Illegal in Europe on Friday February 06, 2026 @07:58AM (#46912264)
Or maybe the americans will pay for the VPN to get normal non-addictive version of tiktok.
Re:Ask HN: Who is hiring? (February 2026) on Monday February 02, 2026 @12:22PM (#46858533)
Waypoint AI | Senior Backend, Fullstack, Frontend | Prague + REMOTE (CZ) | Full-time | Equity

We're building Chip — an AI support engineer that autonomously triages, routes, and resolves complex technical support cases. Think: a teammate that reads every Jira ticket, every Intercom thread, and every runbook, then actually acts on them.

Czech-American B2B startup, raised $3.1M. Already in production with Volvo, ClickHouse, and others.

We're a small eng team where early architectural decisions still matter. We use AI daily as a collaborator (Claude Code) — not as a gimmick, but because it genuinely makes us faster. We value craft, ownership, and shipping in small slices.

Stack: Django + Django Ninja, Postgres, Dramatiq (background jobs), React/Next.js/TypeScript/Tailwind.

Hiring for three roles:

Senior Backend Engineer (AI Systems) — Own APIs, data pipelines, and durable workflows. LLM product experience (evals, cost/latency, vector search) is a plus. https://mywaypoint.ai/open-positions/senior-backend-engineer...

Fullstack Engineer — Backend-heavy with enough frontend to be dangerous. End-to-end ownership from schema to UI. https://mywaypoint.ai/open-positions/fullstack-engineer

Frontend Developer — Build interfaces that make complex AI feel simple. React/Next.js/TS/Tailwind. Product-minded, not just pixel-pushing. https://mywaypoint.ai/open-positions/frontend-developer

Office in Prague 7 (Holešovice), remote-friendly. Competitive CZ-market comp + meaningful equity.

To apply: [email protected] — include a project you shipped end-to-end and how you use AI tooling in your workflow. Mention HN.

I honestly don't like that this is expressed as a comment but I guess it makes the implementation easy and backwards compatible...
Re:Obscure Islands I Find Interesting on Saturday February 08, 2025 @08:44PM (#42987781)
There is a good scifi "Jumping Off the Planet" by David gerrold about space elevators if you have not read it yet.
Re:TikTok goes dark in the US on Sunday January 19, 2025 @07:07AM (#42756331)
Those words have different meaning:

1. Libgen domains are "seized" - only the domains got seized, the website is still operational.

2. tiktok "goes dark", yes because it was an action of tiktok to go dark with the hope that they will be operational next week. Nobody banned them and even Biden said he would not enforce it so they could have simply do nothing and wait for the next week.

3. "censor" porn or news outlets, I think thats common usage.

Re:TikTok goes dark in the US on Sunday January 19, 2025 @06:56AM (#42756277)
The comment said payment, that does not neccesarily mean money. There are things that tiktok can do for him and the money is least of it.

Re:Will Even the Most Advanced Subs Have Nowhere to Hide? on Monday December 16, 2024 @08:35PM (#42437484)
OK but if you actually read the article you will see that this is mostly about australian position, not US.
Have you considered using handles on the luggage? Seems like with some sort of hook you would have better hold on the luggage, but i guess it would be challenging to identify and approach each handle.
Some fujifilm cameras support it seedms: https://fujifilm-dsc.com/en/manual/x-h2_connection/overview_.... Overall this seems better suited for tethered shooting with direct usb-c transfer.

i tried them with fuji 50mb raw files, it was super slow compared to capture one

Show HN: Burgher – a static site generator focused on galleries

https://github.com/Visgean/burgher

Hi this is another static site generator. Its different to other generators because the main focus is on generating gallery websites from existing folder structure. I found that most existing solutions did not handle nested galleries. I use it to generate my gallery website where I have 44GB of photos. Its still a bit rough around the edges.

In edinburgh we had this: https://devpost.com/software/the-marauder-s-app which showed who was using which computer based on logins.
Lol, that depends heavily what you consider staff. E.g. look at freight, if you move cargo by trucks you need 1 staff member (sometimes called drivers) per truck. Train on the other hand needs only 2 people per hundreds of meters of train...

Even worse for individual car transport. You need one staff (driver) per vehicle...

from the wiki article it does not sound like they have ever been useful.

Re:California Bans Sell-By Dates on Thursday October 10, 2024 @12:01PM (#41800229)
But thats the point, none of these actually mean that you cant eat it after te cutoff date.
you can get Fuji GFX with detachabke eye finder.
I think the issue would be the missing datasheet. But I was thinking the same, old cameras seems to be the easiest source of a good sensor.
I think the conclusion is wrong; that sounds much more like dutch.
