Re:Amazon to pay full college tuition for its front-line employees on Thursday September 09, 2021 @11:41AM (#28470917)
Add this to the growing list of retail (retail focused) organizations already employing this method for employee retention/acquisition:

Also, I'll admit that in my current company it is a royal PITA to submit for EDU reimbursement and I would love to have a lower barrier of entry for enrollment friction, etc..

Nicely done!

Feature request: folder or hidden compartment/sticker(s) option?

It seems as if my only artistic contribution to the world will be in the shape of poorly drawn phallic scribbles. (which I have a plan to leverage via iMessage with my wife and fantasy football group text thread) However, I would like to prevent the awkward conversation with my 6 year old if possible about the "cool drawing" daddy keeps making and texting. ;)

TAKE MY $2.00!!!

American kids don't have a chance. Example: High School in Arkansas with a Sonic drive-in across the street and nothing else around it. A SLIM chance of success for a kid born into an environment like that I'd venture to guess.

Also, I am a huge fan of Wendell Berry and this topic has so many implications that are worth exploring IMO.

Re:BirdNet – Identify Birds by Sound on Friday July 23, 2021 @01:44PM (#27933535)
As I understand it there are even sub-dialects for each of these bird calls/songs. The example shared with me was compared to the English language in the U.S. where you would expect to hear stark differences in the southern states vs the New England area with a greeting like: "hey ya'll".

Unfortunately/fortunately I can't get the visual out of my head of a southern speaking crow looking for trash near my house now.....

The worst part is that I KNOW 100% that I opted-out of this at least 6 months ago, but to my surprise it was still enabled in the Alexa App when I double checked this AM. SMH. Do I need to take a screen shot and physically print it out and mail it to Amazon HQ? Sheesh.

I live in the PNW, and avid reader of GeekWire. They wrote a piece in December of 2020 about this issue and the forced Opt In scenario with Sidewalk and Comcast for those curious: https://www.geekwire.com/2020/amazon-sidewalk-rollout-shows-...

Curious if there has been more adoption of these in the lab environment as well: https://youtu.be/-djt0IA4s0w
Re:Study: Inequality Robs $2.5T from U.S. Workers Each Year on Tuesday September 15, 2020 @12:56PM (#24483519)
Another robbery is the taxable income equation and the effects on everyone in a community. For instance, why should the infrastructure in Seattle, WA be literally crumbling before our eyes? (I'm not saying the civic budget makers are blameless here, but something is not right with this equation)

Also, it is not just the home of Bezos and Gates, but multiple other cities according to this audit released by SDOT on 09/11/2020: http://www.seattle.gov/Documents/Departments/CityAuditor/aud...

(Poor bridge conditions: Chicago 14%, Pittsburgh 13%, Seattle 6%, Minneapolis 5%, DC 4%, and Portland 3%)
