neat. python or c++? also I tried to enter in my email into where it says "Get useful tips and updates in your inbox." and it is stuck saying "processing"

sweet. looks good. what gui toolkit is this using?
Re:Qt 6.3 on Tuesday April 12, 2022 @11:18AM (#31003842)
That's definitely a good point. But it's also sort of self-fulfilling: those layout misalignments and RTL font issues you mentioned become less of an issue as more people embrace Qt. Chrome presumably has figured it out simply because so many people are reliant on it working. If more people embraced Qt, they'd fix the hard parts as they would have more investment.
Re:One Year with R on Tuesday March 22, 2022 @10:33AM (#30766556)
JMP and stata are really solid tools, but I feel like the advantage stems from the fact that they help me discover new statistical methods. In the GUI I can see an option for something I never seen before, read the documentation, and therefore expand my stats skillset. This type of discoverability is a bit harder with R/Python just due to the nature of it being purely script driven.
sorry how do you mean with outlook? is there really a way to remove the "modern" design and unveil the 90s beauty beneath?
Re:Show HN: Berkeley Mono Typeface on Friday March 04, 2022 @01:20PM (#30558369)
side note: what an absolutely beautiful website. clear and fast. I love it.
https://linear.app/ this one looks pretty good. I used https://www.broadcom.com/products/software/value-stream-mana... at a previous gig and really liked it
side note, I love the design / color scheme
that's awesome! I tried to do the very same thing: https://github.com/simulatedphysics

do you have a website by any chance where I can follow progress?

neato! I've really enjoyed using sciter.
this looks great! I think I'll give it a read. I am curious to know how pandas stacks up against matlab; like what where the semantic decisions the pandas folks made, the tradeoffs, etc.
Re:Why do interviewers ask linked list questions? on Monday March 29, 2021 @01:15PM (#26625055)
May I ask if the approach you describe here was what you applied in the FAANG interview? I would be pleasantly surprised if it worked! :)
Re:Tauri: An Electron alternative written in Rust on Friday February 19, 2021 @09:13PM (#26200823)
sciter is a really wonderful piece of software. it's performance has been really impressive when I was benching it against qt
Re:Rust is now overall faster than C in benchmarks on Sunday January 03, 2021 @03:00PM (#25624682)
The constexpr specifier should give C++ an advantage
Re:Streamlit Sharing on Thursday October 15, 2020 @01:09PM (#24790963)
Thanks for all your (and teams) hard work! Really liking Streamlit. One thing I've encountered is odd aspect ratio / figure sizing in matplotlib / seaborn plots, but otherwise it's been great
Re:Ephemeral chat, no messages stored, no sign up on Monday July 13, 2020 @01:14PM (#23823081)
interesting - was this inspired by this post the other day on HN? looks good though! https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=23746445 / https://tmpch.at/
Re:Linear – A fast issue tracker on Tuesday June 30, 2020 @02:53PM (#23693444)
I've been playing around with this casually for a few weeks and am quite impressed. It's a definite improvement over Jira in simplicity and performance, but is missing quite a few features still. But still, it's my preference. I have started to appreciate light, fast, minimalist interfaces much more over time.
Re:New system76 laptop: Oryx Pro on Thursday June 25, 2020 @04:02PM (#23644945)
you can't buy thinkpads from the lenovo website? TIL
Re:New system76 laptop: Oryx Pro on Thursday June 25, 2020 @03:13PM (#23644347)
I do wish System76 could sell a Lenovo P53 and/or the new Dell XPS 17, but with pop installed with all the right drivers etc. It's worth the premium IMO to get a laptop you know will work well with linux.
Re:Sublime Merge 2 on Tuesday May 26, 2020 @11:06AM (#23312073)
What UI library does this use? Looks great. Is it a web technology?
Re:Event-Driven Architecture on Wednesday February 12, 2020 @01:57PM (#22311609)
I think it has to do with this idea that you aren't an advanced engineer if you don't use words like 'protocol buffers' and 'event-driven architecture' and 'distributed systems engineering' in your day-to-day. talking in clear and plain terms means you don't know a lot of stuff to justify your generally very high salary. (or at least, that's the flawed mindset)
Re:Ask HN: A modern-looking UML diagram tool? on Monday November 18, 2019 @11:27AM (#21565551)
https://monodraw.helftone.com/ for MacOSX is great
Re:My favorite things that are coming with Julia 1.0 on Friday June 01, 2018 @07:06AM (#17204251)
Phenomenal language. compiles applications to a single binary which makes it super convenient to move around environments
Re:The 1Password 7 Beta for Mac on Wednesday March 28, 2018 @02:11PM (#16700228)
One of the highest quality software projects I've ever seen. It just works so well.
