They could have financed this purchase with their yearly bonus or selling some equity that vested.
The US has a Compact of Free Assocation (COFA) with the Marshall Islands, which provides a lot of the funds for this. Versus Alaska where it is paid for by natural resource extraction. All that said, it is the government of the Marshall Islands making the decision to pay it out this way.
From the US point of view, this is a good program because it incentivizes people from the Marshall Islands to stay put rather than emigrate to the US mainland (which they have a right to do under the COFA).

I thought it was a lovely version of an ancient idea: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zhuangzi_(book)#%22The_Butterf...
Using magit made me believe again that really good software can exist and that there are really great designers still among us.
Also super agree that Stallman's original ideas are only ever more increasingly valid. I will generously say that Stallman has been an imperfect messenger but the core message has always been solid. I have not regretted my FSF membership over the years.
When you say you've proven, are you hinting at use of formal verification?
Here is the key: slow down. Slow down and focus on quality. Use AI to crush one task to high quality. Pour tokens on the problem until it shines. Derive lessons from that to apply going forward.
Learning and efforts to uncover patterns always require front-loading, even when moving fast/agile/blablabla. You need to learn what a good job looks like first before you try and scale up.
Ignoring this lesson WILL cause you to burn out. The Iron Triangle remains undefeated.
(Edit: I mean it, that really made me laugh)
He said he wanted a globe for the desk in his office, 'but to scale'.
For the pro league some names you need: Ramana Maharshi, Sri Ramakrishna Paramhansa, Swami Vivekananda, Swami Brahmananda, Sri Yogananda Paramahansa, Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh (yes, really), Chogyam Trungpa (yes, really). And many more names beside.
I increasingly consider Anthropic's so-called humanistic stance completely hubristic and hypocritical. They are our self-appointed future dictators.

You might be surprised. I met a guy in Berkeley who lived out of a van. He told me that he ran a horrible ad distribution thing as a way to make his living. There was some fly-by-night colo or homelab setup he had to run some cheap pizza box hardware. "I'm basically always playing a game of how can I serve the most ads on this shitty CPU I have." All kinds of nasty stuff ran on his ad network, he totally didn't care.
I asked him how did he get paid and of course he received Bitcoin and other crypto. I asked him what did he usually buy with that crypto? He looked me dead in the eye and said: "coke and heroin."
Some people truly, truly, truly don't care about the consequences of their actions.
I have a degree in Economics. I have read Adam Smith (and not just the Wealth of Nations, by the way!). I spent years on this stuff. I understand markets and for some things they are indeed the best solution. No argument there.
It is a FACT that some things in life should not be done for profit.
I refuse to give up on my dreams! :)
