Ask HN: How are you protecting your apps and infra after recent vulnerabilities?

Recently, there has been a rise in major security incidents, hacks, and zero-day vulnerabilities. Are you actively doing something to prevent your systems from being exploited, and how are you ensuring you haven't already suffered a data breach? To be honest, I'm scrambling my head thinking about all the possibilities, and it's making me a bit anxious.

I wrote a book about networking, but told through analogies. I spent a lot of my school and early career struggling a bit with networking in general, and I had the opportunity to grow my career and meet people through it that taught me a lot. This is the book I wish I had early on. https://networksbyanalogy.com/

Is this what is called piggybacking?

Unfortunately, yes. They are making it quite obvious, and sadly, there isn't anything we can do about it.
You saved me the tokens, I was thinking to do exactly this!!

I’m working on three things that keep turning out to be more connected than I expected.

The first is Networks by Analogy: https://networksbyanalogy.com

It’s a book about computer networking, but deliberately not protocol-first. I’m trying to explain the shape of the system using analogies and mental models first, then map those back onto the real machinery.

The second is Verachi: https://verachi.io

That one is about risk management. I’ve been noticing time and time again, in multiple orgs I’ve worked with, that direction and implementation don’t align in many cases. Devs end up doing work that no one asked for, and middle managers tend to “invent” irrelevant work.

The third is Midflight: https://midflight.dev

This is about learning software architectures using chaos testing. You can bring your own architecture, inject failures in safe environments, practice, and ultimately generate agent skills to automate fixes for these types of failures.

Patents?

Ask HN: How do you minimize dependence on US-based infrastructure?

With Donald current shenanigans and for companies operating in Europe and/or Latin America: are you doing anything to ensure your business can continue if major US infrastructure providers become inaccessible (for geopolitical, regulatory, or sanctions-related reasons)? If yes, what stack choices and operational practices helped most (cloud, identity, observability, comms, CI/CD, payments,...

I truly, with passion, hate JIRA.

So, I'm building mooomooo, which is my idea of what it means to replace tools like JIRA, linear, and such with a unified data model that can adapt to solo devs, small teams and huge orgs so I don't have to manually move tickets to done.

I hope I can do my first release soon :)

Re:Ask HN: How do you manage multiple MCP servers in Claude Code? on Wednesday September 03, 2025 @07:36AM (#45114555)
* Use subagents with access to dedicated tools. * Build slash commands with high level directives to use those sub agents in a structured way

Re:Apple bans entire dev account, no reason given on Friday July 18, 2025 @01:50AM (#44601619)
And yet, I’m still waiting for them to approve my developer account, It’s been two months now. they seriously need to be broken up and allow other app stores and ways to developer for their hardware.
"Sure"...

And next will be AWS, Azure, GCP.

We really need to find alternatives to US services.

I don't want my business to depend on the mood of a single individual.

Is o3-Mini Rude?

I’m not sure how to explain it, but it comes with a little bit of an attitude, a bit of a lazy, ‘figure it out yourself’ vibe. Even the replies don’t feel as ‘humble’ as o1’s.It’s almost like o3-mini was trained to be a manager. :P

I like Apple Notes because it has some nice features, and the best part is that Spotlight can search for text inside any note, even in attachments, which makes finding things super easy.

The main reason I use Bear is for its markdown support. I write a lot of technical docs for $dayjob and side projects, so it’s a must-have for me.

If Apple Notes ever adds Markdown support (or at least proper code snippets), then bye bye to Bear.

Yesterday, I was thinking about building something like this that could also search through my Bear notes and my zsh history, along with other sources.

It would even let me search my query history (but in a smarter way, I promise).

The idea is to:

1. Make it easier to find what I’ve already looked up, so when I search for something I’ve done before, I can quickly pull up what I found or did. 2. If not found locally, to combine several LLMs and search engines at the same time.

Re:Alleged images of Nintendo's new Switch have appeared online on Wednesday September 18, 2024 @11:41PM (#41588273)
Problem is that most people don't care :( they just want to play Zelda.

As long as exclusive games exists people will flock to their hardware. I personally dislike Nintendo as a company but I can't deny that some of the games they produce are the ones I enjoy the most.

> The company has been party to multiple lawsuits related to sexual harassment, assault and workplace injury/death and the ability to try cases in a more friendly environment will make it easier to encourage employees to optimize productivity.

Instead of fixing our culture, less move to a place where committing sexual harassment is "not that much of a problem" ... lol

Sadly the same world were every time Elon twits it become news :(
Why?
Sadly yes, selling snake oil does seem to work for some people.
So what?
And yet he has a blue mark :(
