Re:Vathographs: Photographic depth maps as creative expression on Tuesday November 03, 2026 @11:17AM (#50353916)
Check the photo with the moped rider next to the escalators (subway station exit?): the depth map shows structure for the shadows of the supports of the glass roof. There is no true depth. Only fake.

It had both ended up in the second chance pool.
Aren’t these secure-enclave/exclave chips working like that, basically?
Also a joke about Altman thinking that we shouldn’t have RAM.
Maybe the right meme would be “Isn’t there someone you forgot to ask” with someone shopping RAM and a picture of Sam Altman?
> These and other methods are good reason to believe that AI can never be 100% contained, which gives me pause.

Can’t leak secrets if you don’t have RAM.

It‘s awesome, thanks and your progress from breadboard to finished project is amazing! Don‘t let all the complaints here keep you from building and sharing.

You could consider replacing the potentiometer with an encoder that has no fixed range and can’t be broken by turning it too much.

„The map and Live then work with no signal. Fossil finds and Live’s active faults still need a connection.“
Yes, this is a „case study“.

This is a reply to the dead comment of buriram:

> If anything, it should make me more optimistic, not less. If you have an idea, you can turn it into product within 30 minutes, no matter how complicated it is.

There is no product in that anymore because someone else could copy your product in the same time.

I just looked up Comment Owl and it’s way more capable. Thanks for suggesting that!

So far I was content to be able to add tooltips with short notes to users but this one might be it from now on.

“HN friends” is a nice way of adding some information.
Re:In Hilbert space, all things are quantumly possible on Wednesday October 21, 2026 @10:09AM (#50181287)
I just read the article and can not make any sense of your comment. It does not relate to anything of the actual article content (but only superficially to the title itself).
Because cost of production and the price being charged are two different things.
Re:Making Chicken Transparent Using Dorito Dust on Saturday October 17, 2026 @12:02PM (#50132255)
As the author seems to be around: have you considered surface roughness of the sample as problem to transparency?

Add some water between the grid pattern and the chicken and also some on top of it - or even conduct the experiment under water and the results should be better. You might also freeze the meat before cutting to achieve much smoother surfaces in the first place?
