I've seen all the sentiments, but hadn't thought it was so divided between the BTC/ETH crowds. It's interesting!

(Of course generalizations are never 100% accurate, but they can highlight a theme which is interesting to observe)

Could you explain (or source) this difference please? I don't recall seeing this type of grouping before.

Ask HN: Revolut locked account, not answering support. What to do?

It started with them asking to verify source of funds. Not a problem, I've sent them both personal and business details (I'm self employed). While waiting to hear more, I could still use the app and the card. Now, I can use neither. When I start the app I can only access support, and any message I leave there is left without a response.Any suggestions on what to do here? There are plenty of...

I'd add; Comments should be saying _why_ this crazy method is here. You can always parse the code to figure out what it does. In a few months/years (depending on your memory) you will not remember _why_ this code was put in place.

Re:Ask HN: Tech support/emergency contact for small business on Thursday August 18, 2016 @12:22PM (#12313826)
Very true. I got that, and co-workers do have access to passwords and ssh keys in case I'd disappear, but I was hoping others on here had better solutions to these issues.

Ask HN: Tech support/emergency contact for small business

We are a small company with only one technical person. This poses a couple of problematic scenarios;- The technical person must always be available for support if something goes wrong.- If the technical person is hit by a bus, there's going to be trouble for the company.I'm curious how others have dealt with these issues, other than hiring another technical person.Have you hooked up...

Same(?) clip on dailymotion;

It's available from Malta, whereas the Youtube one isn't.

I appreciate I'm a bit late to the party here, but..

Does anyone have any type of explanation of why the UI in browsers for client certs are so user-unfriendly?

I would really like to use client certs more, but with things the way they are that's impossible right now. It's just too hard for a normal person to use them.

Re:Airbnb Horror Story Points to Need for Precautions on Saturday August 15, 2015 @07:20AM (#10065082)
Sure, if Airbnb have been given proof that the subletting is illegal, they should remove the listing.

But my point is that doesn't really solve the problem. What should be sorted is the fact that this person sublets the flat illegally.

Re:Airbnb Horror Story Points to Need for Precautions on Saturday August 15, 2015 @06:43AM (#10065010)
Is that really Airbnb's fault?

Airbnb is the service provider in this case, but there are other companies with a similar service, or the neighbour could let it out personally to other people.

Assuming the neighbour is subletting illegally as you state, surely that's where the problem lies.

Re:Balanced payments is shutting down on Friday March 13, 2015 @07:05PM (#9200663)
Before this announcement, I'd never heard of Balanced.

Reading comments, some people are saying it was a great service. But, it's shutting down, while services less great carry on.

This is hard for dev people (like myself) to realize, but if you're looking for commercial success, marketing is generally worth more than the quality of your product.

Re:EBay under pressure as hacks continue on Monday September 22, 2014 @12:21PM (#8351208)
Disagree.

We technical people instinctively know there's a fundamental difference between those 2 domains. Normal people don't. And why should they?

We (tech people) have to get the situation to a point where we don't expect normal people to have to know all these silly details.

I'm not doing anything to help achieve this, I'm hoping other people are :)

Re:Slackware 14.1 is released on Thursday November 07, 2013 @06:58PM (#6693427)
there will always be idiots.

there will always be people catching on to something, being loud, creating the first noise other people see.

Seriously. Fuck it. Ignore it. Ignore them.

I haven't followed Slackware dev for 10+ years (too old etc), but it was the awesome thing in the 90s (to me); at a time I was curious to learn about all the weird details, it gave me the opportunity,

I hope it still does give that opportunity, AND that young people take advantage of this.

Looking back, this is (part of) the magic and joy of computers. People doing a lot of cool shit, and then sending it off for free for other people to do other cool shit. No app store in sight.

Re:Ask HN: What are you working on and why is it cool? on Saturday October 26, 2013 @03:07PM (#6618761)
Working on services that makes law firms and lawyers more efficient.

It's cool (to me) because I'm one of the co-founders, we started from 0 a few years ago, and I like to see the growth.

(you didn't specify it had to be cool to other people)

This could hopefully prevent the death part!

As a snowboarder, this could be very useful to let people know if I'm not back from the mountain.
