I'm under the impression that VP9 is in the same generation with H265 (in terms of video size and encoding/decoding performance) but VP9 is free and open, so as a consumer, I'll happily accept if everybody just uses VP9.
I didn't take the test but it might involve sudoku. I remember taking a test of similar fashion some time ago, and the final (hardest) question completely threw me off. I got curious and asked others, and was told it's sudoku related.
Pattern puzzles are good. I remember trying a test on the official Mensa website 10 years ago, and gave up midway because there were lots of word puzzles, which were biased in favor of native English speakers.
I think the answer is Berkshire Hathaway. But the problem is whether you can afford to buy one share.
If you do CSS you'd know the best fonts for 16px isn't the best fonts for 18px, and definitely not the best fonts for H1 H2 etc.
The Verdana font that HN and reddit uses are pretty good for reading in small text.
I just want to buy the shows I want to watch, and permanently own them under my Netflix account. I don't mind buying them for $30 a season. Just like Steam.
Hey you know what? I think Steam should probably do just that!
I've always been confused about Holland, Netherlands, and Dutch.
I don't mind seeing mosquitoes disappear even if they carry no virus.
"We're very sorry, but we hit the rate limit of the model... please try again shortly."
- It's totally understandable since you're on the HN frontpage, but hey please give me my question back! It took me one minute to type it!!
It's interesting to see that out.js isn't minified.
After finishing the tutorial, for 10+ games I was under the false impression that a powerup is immediately used at the spot where you acquire it. I think if powerups are named "weapons", it should be less likely to cause this fusion for future players, because the word "weapon" implies that you can carry it around.
How do I know the effect of a powerup before stepping on it?
I'd call it "the best way to improve your Hearthstone ranking".
When I hear "isometric", I think "not perspective", which is a style I like a lot. For example, google image "isometric city".
However, looking at the video on the OpenMW site, it does look perspective.
Thanks, just to confirm: if you want the users to see nice colors out of the box (no matter what theme they use) without needing to customizing anything in their settings, then you'd have to utilize common scopes like variables / functions / errors in a hacky way, correct?
It's a sad truth but for most of us, when it comes to "decide which status game to play", you're simply aiming for money no matter what you choose. Money is the overarching metric that already incorporates everything else. The "weightlifting status" or the "content creator status" mentioned in the article are just money status in disguise.
Ask yourself: if you won a big lottery tomorrow, would you still keep doing what you do today? If the answer is no, then you've been playing the money game all along.
I haven't checked the Sublime package because I'm not very familiar with Sublime (anymore), but I have some experience developing VSCode themes. Did you need to use "tokens / scopes" to hack the colors? E.g. the color theme of the IDE (whatever theme the user is using at the moment) will paint variables in a certain color, functions in another color, arguments in a third color, etc, so you use regex to parse the text file, identify things that you want to color, then set them to be variables, functions, arguments, etc, so the text editor will give them different colors?

I wonder if each server is an actual server from a tech standpoint. If not, isn't it a daunting name for new users? Before I became a user, for a long time I thought Discord was an open source protocol where everybody can start their own server by setting up and hosting the server which stores all the chat histories, which is too formidable to venture into.

In Shanghai, the largest city of China, a municipal regulation took effect on Mar 1, which states:1. nobody is allowed to provide tattoo services to people under 18, and2. without parent's consent, nobody is allowed to provide cosmetic surgeries to people under 18.This change is part of a new amendment to a municipal regulation regarding protection of minors. It's been in effect for nearly a...
It'd be great if the spec mandates some color coding.
The Windows UI in 1985 looked great.
(So was the 1984 Macintosh)
"!important" means "not important", I guess the engineers didn't like the law makers so they made this an insider joke.
The best news in a long time.

Hacker News has a unique feature that reddit and other forums don't have - the "hide" button. In theory, you may scan through the titles and click "hide" on each one you know you won't read. The benefit is when you come back later next time, you won't have to scan through those titles again. This sounds great, except nobody does it, because it's too many clicks. This chrome extension solves this...
Everybody's tiktok is different, the algorithm knows you well, and always gives you what you like. If you look at other people's tiktok, it's always very dumb, but when you open your own, it's always good, because you never hate your own taste.
Something you don't realize but matters to certain people: this will lock the time difference between east coast US & east coast China to 12 hours, which is very convenient, a quality of life change for a variety of things.
Sorry I'm too lazy to do mental gymnastics, could someone tell me, does this mean 8am will be darker or lighter than before?
Yes if you have more than 100. It should scroll all the way to the bottom.
By the way (OP here), videos disappear from TikTok everyday for various reasons, and this tool monitors and labels all disappeared videos, as long as you have downloaded them first. My numbers show they typically disappear at a rate of ~3% per month (which is one major reason why I built this tool).
