Re:The GitHub wiki is an anti-pattern (2022) on Wednesday September 23, 2026 @09:54AM (#49816244)
Why is this easier or more effective than just a /docs directory?
Interesting - so is this a local llm that identifies scams and prevents me from clicking? Seems like an awesome opportunity for a local version of Jev to say “scam/not scam”!
Re:Jev: New frontier model 40-400x cheaper and 20-200x faster on Wednesday September 16, 2026 @08:36AM (#49726027)
What are peoples' thoughts on whether a local version of Jev is possible? Having to call an API for something that's main benefit is speed is orthagonal to their ethos.

This is great! Whats the tech stack?

I started thumping cars but then got into an infinite spiral I couldn’t get out of.

Re:Ask HN: What Are You Working On? (February 2026) on Sunday February 08, 2026 @08:46PM (#46940641)
This is really cool. I wish the example stories let me see the entire book and purchase them if I like them.

I’m skeptical about the stories being good quality so seeing the full stories might mitigate that.

Re:Ask HN: What Are You Working On? (February 2026) on Sunday February 08, 2026 @08:39PM (#46940589)
You should just launch it no? I’m looking to try one of these and getting to market fast is important because there will be many more very soon.

The use case examples are good, would be nice to include a couple that use browser automation or that feel more magical than reminders.

Is the memory functionality just what’s baked into OpenClaw/Pi or is it customized somehow?

Re:Ask HN: What Are You Working On? (February 2026) on Sunday February 08, 2026 @08:33PM (#46940544)
How do you create the cards for Kardy? I wonder whether just making great ecards wouldn’t be a bigger market.
Re:We built a 270M local model to detect phishing URLs on Thursday November 06, 2025 @07:31PM (#45842316)
Interesting - is it just the URL or is it actually crawling the phishing site to assess whether its phishing? And how does it distinguish the site bank.com from bąnk.com (with a little curly ą) if both are an identical clone of bank.com?
Is this going to put contextual ads into my codebase or into the discussion if I use it with my coding agent of choice?
Re:Show HN: ShellAI – Local Terminal Assistance with SLM on Thursday November 06, 2025 @02:46PM (#45839454)
This is really cool - so it uses Gemma SLM? Why can't you just package that here into GitHub?

And why is `ptrace` needed?

Re:Show HN: The modern flip phone – but it's an iPhone on Sunday October 19, 2025 @03:23PM (#45637103)
The idea is that the damage done by addictive social media apps is far greater than $20/month. And people already buy dumbed down smartphones based on Android that don’t allow most apps.

Show HN: The modern flip phone – but it's an iPhone

https://dumbsmartphones.com

I built dumbsmartphones.com for people who want to use their phone less — without switching to a clunky flip phone or giving up iMessage. The idea is simple: we take an iPhone and configure it through Apple’s device management tools to remove addictive apps and lock down distractions. You can still text, call, navigate, and take photos — but no TikTok, no Instagram, no YouTube, no app store...

You are quite literally saying that you support censorship.
It will automatically make a video ad for my site using AI somehow?

I'd love to see the code on how the vector embedding works.
Re:CodeCov is now Open Source on Wednesday August 02, 2023 @11:48AM (#36972529)
So cool to see the CTO of Sentry here! This makes some sense to me - I'm actually following an issue with Sentry I had recently and although it's not being fixed anytime soon at least I know the status.

https://github.com/getsentry/sentry-python/issues/370

I'd love to believe that one day someone will crack the nut of "Sentry puts a bounty on this issue and YPCrumble decides to make a PR because it's something he's experiencing AND he'd get some experience working on the Sentry codebase which would be a learning opportunity, and he feels like he's getting paid for his time."

Re:CodeCov is now Open Source on Wednesday August 02, 2023 @11:30AM (#36972263)
People often claim that open source is more secure, which is implied in this release. But the CodeCov breach that leaked any secrets provided to CI/CD pipelines [1] was done via a bash script available to anyone to read the code. The breach wasn't complex at all. It was just that nobody noticed for a long time that the bash uploader script sent all secrets to a random IP address.

It makes me wonder what the benefit really is to being open source. Is it just marketing?

Re:Medicine is plagued by untrustworthy clinical trials on Tuesday July 18, 2023 @10:12AM (#36772571)
At first I didn't believe this could be true but the link is here: https://www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/nejmoa2034577

It seems that Pfizer basically rammed the vaccine through because it prevented covid with 95% efficacy for a couple months and made the case that it was too effective to continue the study.

We now know that antibodies from Pfizer decrease significantly and quickly after a couple months, so it seems very likely that Pfizer knew this as well and decided that after two months was the perfect time to conclude their study and start selling vaccines.

It feels like most answers to “who is at the losing end of any transaction” is pension funds, which are guaranteed by the government. So by your theory PE firms are sucking in taxpayer money by fleecing pension funds run by financiers who aren’t smart enough to get into PE.

Basically until pension funds aren’t bailed out by the government this will continue.

What is the benefit of this over Apple’s default screen time app?
Re:The EV Transition Is Harder Than Anyone Thinks on Tuesday March 28, 2023 @08:07PM (#35350018)
As someone who doesn’t own an electric car, why are they better for the average driver?

The only thing I know about is their acceleration but that isn’t important to me personally as I prefer to drive slowly.

How is this different from Meticulous, another YC company?
Re:Silicon Valley Bank paid out bonuses hours before seizure on Saturday March 11, 2023 @06:16PM (#35113805)
This is literally showing how parasitic these organizations are. Bankers think that banks exist to make themselves a lot of money, not to serve customers.

This is why organizations like SVB need to fail without any kind of bailout and executives need to go to prison for paying out bonuses if they paid them out knowing they couldn’t meet their fiduciary responsibility to customers.

Aren’t you supporting my point? Your current salary is lower because you are also earning a 1,000/month income in perpetuity for the rest of your life. And people who teach for longer, like you said, will get more.

Teacher salaries are low because unions have negotiated them to support pensions, especially pensions of teachers that last long enough to get a “much higher” pension.

I’m inclined to agree, especially because teachers also receive pensions for the rest of their lives after retiring, in average before the age of 60 according to a quick google search. Young teachers make less to support these pensions.

I would be interested to hear an argument that refutes your claim.

Incredibly this is more readable than the Vue example given as a reason why Vue’s syntax is better!
