How is it a problem?
A 10x programmer doesn't cost 10 times as much as a regular programmer. 10x programmers are real and drive real business value. The people who insist 10x programmers are a myth simply have not worked with one. Do not conflate brilliant-but-an-asshole or prodigious-output-but-creates-a-mess programmers with 10x programmers.
Re:Germany bans children's smartwatches on Friday November 17, 2017 @02:10PM (#15725044)
Why is spying on children any different than spying on adults?

No. Sometimes at work I don't want to use my employer's wifi. Sometimes I do.

Their only choice is to pay up or ignore it.

They can pirate it too, which is often a superior user experience in that the user can keep the file, move it to a different device, watch without arcane restrictions, etc.

4chan's hr board sometimes has high-resolution photos of this project.
Your citation is about starch. A better citation in support of your assertion https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/71495
He doesn't have a citation because he's wrong.

Part of the point of bitcoin is that it is decentralized.
you can just:

$ grep face /etc/hosts

which would describe, I think, most women and people of color who have participated in technical communities for more than a short time

This is an odd assumption to make.

Do you have a source for this?

Re:OpenSSH 7.0 released on Tuesday August 11, 2015 @01:29PM (#10042848)
Several ciphers will be disabled by default [in the next release]: blowfish-cbc, cast128-cbc, all arcfour variants and the rijndael-cbc aliases for AES.

I still use arcfour; it seems to be the fastest when using scp or rsync (rsync -e 'ssh -c arcfour') for copying large files. I hope the OpenSSH package manager for my distribution keeps arcfour enabled for this reason.

Re:Dollar Shave Club Is Valued at $615M on Tuesday June 23, 2015 @12:00AM (#9762537)
I remember when Dollar Shave Club popped up on my radar. I thought to myself, "You know what? They are right. It's ridiculous that I spend so much money on Gillette razor blades. I only get 2-3 good shaves out of them."

I ended up buying an $80 Philips electric razor and haven't looked back. Takes way less time, I don't have to use shaving cream, and I don't have to be careful either.

Re:Mark Shuttleworth Considering Canonical IPO on Monday May 25, 2015 @06:56PM (#9602083)
You can brick certain ThinkPads with BIOS older than 2.08 by installing Linux on them.

Not Linux-related, but the keyboard transition (happened between W520 and W530) was unfortunate and pissed a lot of people off.

I'm sure the new keyboard design has its merits, but the fact that they changed it over the objection of their most loyal users speaks volumes about the direction Lenovo is taking the ThinkPad brand.

Re:Ask HN: Always late to the office, is this OK? on Friday May 15, 2015 @03:27PM (#9553041)
This sounds like a maturity issue. Grow up. Show up on time.

If they want you there at 9, get there at 9. That's not unreasonable.

Re:Foo Fighters, HIV Deniers (2000) on Thursday April 30, 2015 @06:32PM (#9468070)
The inventor of PCR, Kary Mullis, has something to say about this too.

Can you cite any research that shows definitively that HIV causes AIDS? Mullis says that he can't find a reference. Can you?

Re:Why RAII rocks on Thursday April 23, 2015 @05:18PM (#9429891)
Why not just put a and b on the stack then? ;)

Bjarne says, "Code that creates an object using new and then deletes it at the end of the same scope is ugly, error-prone, and inefficient."

Re:How Google Hires on Tuesday April 07, 2015 @01:43PM (#9335711)
The problem, however, is that most standardized tests of this type discriminate against non-white, non-male test takers (at least in the United States).

Can anyone explain this? I don't understand the explanation that follows.
