How can an individual investor profit from the coming sovereign debt crisis?
Sometimes when I go to hacker news, I feel really poor.
I did the math on this a while ago and calculated I could travel my normal commute back and forth on the battery of a plug-in hybrid. I would only need the petrol engine on longer trips. I'd probably spend 80% of the driving in electric mode and 20% in gas mode. I wouldn't really say that's just a slightly lower consumption.
The spinning wheel has kinetic energy, not potential energy, right?
Any tips on finding a good mentor?
Which startups are trying to build a launch loop or space towers? I'd love to keep track of those startups.

If you haven't already, read: Tripping Over the Truth: The Return of the Metabolic Theory of Cancer Illuminates a New and Hopeful Path to a Cure (ISBN: 9781603587303). It is a great review of the history of Cancer. It concludes that the reason for the failed war against cancer stems from a flawed paradigm that categorizes cancer as an exclusively genetic disease and explores therapies born from the emerging metabolic theory of cancer.
I think it's a cultural thing. A lot of people in europe think skyscrapers destroy the skylines of cities. They really dislike any changes though. For example, in Stockholm, there was a fire recently in a rather ugly building (where they educate architects!!). Rather than tearing it down and building something better looking than that sh*thole eye sore of a building they are just repairing it.
This is the building I'm talking about: https://www.google.se/maps/@59.3433863,18.0697072,3a,75y,309...
Of course. I'd much rather trust the anecdotes of a stranger on the internet
I really wish people could make it a habit to define acronyms.
Please do not take advice about your health from hacker news. Type 1 diabetes is a serious condition. Consult a medical professional about your diet and medication.
Assuming the market keep on growing over time as it has done for a very long time, all time highs aren't something spectacular or unusual in the stock market, in fact it occurs almost on a daily basis.
As an analogy; if you go to a grocery store, all the items on the shelves are at an all time high price, but no one is expecting the price of milk to drop drastically just because it's at an all time high.
You should try to add some sort of tracking of when people start to write a message to you. If that's in any way possible. It would be really stalkery if you knew whenever someone started writing a message and perhaps decided not to send the message.
Aren't non-compete clauses banned in California?
Ships going from (for example) Europe to Asia switch to the cheaper sulfur bunker when exiting the EU. This could be easily fixed with international regulations so people wouldn't be able to use that misleading argument.
Don't focus on placing every tile perfect, just get them evenly placed across the hexagon. The game seems to slow down after a while as well. I got 17800 points after a few trials..
I live in the same city but I can't find a pizza near me that's cheaper than ~90 SEK - 14.01 USD
It would seem to me a much simpler solution would be for airlines to offer earplugs on all flights. That way, babies can cry and businessmen don't whine.
Yep, I thought I was going to find my own domain here.

A few weeks ago I made a feeback submission to facebook regarding the new graph search user experience design. I proposed to them that you should be able to click outside of the search bar in order to dismiss the search. A few minutes ago, this happened to my search box: http://imgur.com/In1ssFd (when you click outside of the dark blue the search results is dismissed) just wondering, is this...
You can bet Facebook is storing that data though. And who knows what the future holds, perhaps Facebook will be forced to sell that data to its users in order to increase revenue and make stock holders content?
I signed up for path a couple of months ago, with facebook. When I realised how much private photos (they didn't seem to care about the privacy settings on facebook) they took from me, I deactivated my account and sent an email asking them to remove all my information. Yesterday, I reactivated my account, lo and behold, they had not taken away my information as I asked them to do, and it seems the information had been there all along, even though I deactivated my account, because some friend of mine hade gone in and "liked" my pictures on path while my account was deactivated.
Correlation does not imply causataion.
How do you get it before everyone else?
It seems like you are able to "remove" searches but you have to click on all of them manually, there's no "remove all search history"-functionality, at least that I was able to find. Searches seems to go back to september this year for me.
Try to search for a friend using the search bar on your newsfeed. Then go back and look again.

If you go to your Activity Log and check the box that says "Include Only Me Activity", all your searches will be displayed. Personally, I'm scared I'll forget to log off my facebook account one day and that someone might get access to which of my friends profiles I've searched for. What are your opinions?
