While I understand this sentiment - is that really how you create a successful business?

If you have a worker who just doesn't perform at all, no matter what you do, should you fire them? Would you want to be fired if the tables were reversed?

What's your point? That statement has nothing to do with the problem at hand.

> Tell me how a person can "earn" enough money by doing work that produces 60,000 lifetimes worth of wealth. You can't.

By providing value or services to people which they want to spend money on. It's pretty simple actually. Though not simple in execution.

Who cares? All of this is just envy. The author doesn't want the rich person to be rich. It's not about whether everyone is wealthy or not.

Let's say we distribute Bezos money to everyone. That's 24 Dollars per person. It would change nothing. Nada.

> They don't need to fire anyone. They just want to.

Why would they want to? If they make so much money, why fire a few people for a massive amount of bad PR? So seem to know the reasoning. Enlighten us please.

It's called narcissistic entitlement to expect the whole world to change their behaviour because of ones own inability to fit in. I'm not saying it is fair. Life is never fair. The only one who has the ability to influence those situations is oneself. You can't rely on other to change - it won't work anyways. You have to be the one that improves those interactions. For your own good.

For that you'd need to hack Intels infrastructure and get access to the private keys.
If you think Tobacco and Alcohol are as dangerous as MDMA you have no idea about drugs. It can escalate far far far more easily and I hate those comparison. I'm speaking from experience.

Re:The Invention of a New Pasta Shape on Saturday March 20, 2021 @03:22PM (#26525413)
I think it has more to do with the pasta taking in a lot of sauce, rather then it holding a lot of sauce. To make a good Italian pasta dish: Take out the pasta a bit earlier out of the water and poor it into your sauce. The pasta will take in some sauce and get al-dente in the sauce. The pasta shouldn't bath in sauce but just be enough to give your pasta lots of flavor. Don't wash your pasta after cooking, because that will close its pores and hinder it from taking in sauce.
The more I think about this comment, the more it just seems so wrong. Yes, depression is not always caused by lifestyle, but it definitely can be. What you are saying just sounds like an excuse for taking the easy path. If trying to change your lifestyle to fix your mental health is a bad thing, what is your counter suggestion? Taking pills that make you addicted, not solve the problem and make everything worse if you stop taking them?

I know there are cases, where medication is inevitable and is the only option. But this is a minority. The vast majority of mental health issues we have today, are caused by lack of virtue and values, choice of diet, sleep and lack of social interactions.

Depression does not have to be moral failing of will power, but it definitely can be cured by moral success of will power.

Most of this "freedom" we "Apple users" don't have, is very theoretical. I don't feel I lack anything I would have on Windows/Linux/Android and I work more efficient, easier and without frustration. I'm happy to give up some "freedom" I don't need.

+ I always have the freedom to switch my system in case I feel like it, don't I?

Thing with most drugs is - we barely know which long-term/not clearly traceable side effects they have. We have these big issues like heart attacks, strokes, cancer, mental issues, gene defects - all of which don't have obvious causes but surely increased with pollution, drugs and chemicals

lol, I just thought about writing a script that does excactly that for javascript code. For easy implementation I thought about using annotations/comments that tell the script what to delete once a feature switch is being deleted.

typescript is just a language, how is that a dependency? by that logic, nothing is dependency free.

most linux server distributions come without a firewall installed/activated. does this default mean it's linux' fault when users do not setup a firewall?
I think the author is aware of that. I think it's more an easy way to 'udp-fy' existing tcp services and only update the client to use udp
But that doesn't explain false negatives, does it?
Re:Welcome to the Virosphere on Tuesday March 24, 2020 @01:50PM (#22676838)
I don't think the existing viruses that infect humans are so important. The problem is rather mutation - or evolution - any virus that at the moment does not affect humans can suddenly develop into one that infects humans, and this is how COVID-19 started. Land living animals are the greatest risk here because their bodies essentially work the same as humans and farming them increases the amount of viruses and thus the potential for a mutation to spread fast.
I've worked with both. And I have to say: It depends. Mostly I feel like typescript slows me down A LOT. In my opinion, the better your code style, guidelines, linting, infrastructure, error reporting and tests - the less you need typescript. I worked in a team that had about 150 micro-apps and services, it was maintained by roughly 15 devs. Each microservice had it's very small scope and it was very very easy to work with it. Everything was very predictable, which made it easy to work without having types.
