While AlphaFold is great, to my knowledge, these proteins have several non-significant IDRs (intrinsically disordered regions), which have been and continue to be hard to model with AlphaFold. I work on computational modeling, so if I had to guess, I'm very unsure if people are using it for whole protein modeling, rather than looking at more specific domains where it probably does much better.
share the prompt!
fair enough. I wonder if fine-tuning over different modalities like IMC, H&E etc would help it generalize better across all
none of the models you mentioned are open source...
Do you think finetuning these LLMS would bring about comparable results to specific models trained for this?

going of a tangent but would you say it's worth going to a similarly ranked uni(oxford) if one wants to go into entrepreneurship given its more 'academic' emphasis? as opposed to somewhere like UCSD where it's not as prestigious but close to the tech scene.(bonus points for california weather ha!)

sad to see no neuro-ai , is it too early?
Re:Ask HN: What are your predictions for 2024? on Thursday December 28, 2023 @05:04AM (#38791880)
maybe its naïvety, but I expected a more optimistic/positive outlook from the hacker community lol.

just curious, why are so many predictions so pessimistic?

a direct messaging system, there've been countless times when I've wanted to ask a poster some (unrelated) questions, but they have no contact details.
yeah scratch, visual basic and swift playgrounds got me into it. Great for piquing interest, especially being able to see projects others built and interact with them.
super cool! what model are you using for this?

Sam isnt really a proponent of EA, for what its worth.

Re:Ask HN: Great resources for university calculus/physics? on Thursday August 24, 2023 @11:10PM (#37257545)
Would add "Aptitude Test Problems in Physics",S. S.Krotov. It is tougher than Irodov but definitely improves upon your skill in think about hard problems
iirc midjourney has figured it out although its closed source if you were wondering.

Looks great! If you could make this a PWA i'd download it for sure.

Suggestion: If you could set intervals of deep work for around 1.5 hour's too and log them that'd be pretty awesome, with breaks in between.

Haven't written a lot yet, but planning to!

I have a brother who's 13 years old.

Before the pandemic, he was a pretty smart kid, around the top half of his class, with an interest in learning for the sake of learning itself. During the pandemic, classes happened online(microsoft teams) and almost all his friends were playing video games while teaching was ongoing and disconnecting if asked a question(Not chastising him here, I did this too at times ha!)

Back to school, he's been struggling with simple algebra and geometry, which should have been clear(in a normal scenario) a year ago. The desire to learn, has been replaced with other more short-term pleasures like watching yt,gaming etc. School teachers are ill-equipped to address this but thats a tangent I'll not go off right now.

My parents have hired a private tutor for math to help him address the struggles he's facing right now, because the school sure as hell wont.

> On the other hand, if he's a good farmer, and the farm produces well, and he doesn't over-extend his risk on what he's committing to, he now has a fixed price contract for his goods, which isn't going to fluctuate based on time (assuming the contract is honoured - if he's worried about that, Jeremy could then buy insurance on the risk of a default on the contract

So basically a third party would step in to assure him that he'd be paid the fixed price for a small fee? Are there no repercussions if the contract isnt honored?
