At first I thought he was the Sikh who does the Vulcan greeting, but then I noticed the one white guy and thought "No, that's him!".
I love these kind of projects. I'd love it even more if it was open source.

Preservation of the software is the most important thing and I'm glad the game pirates are very fastidious about it, but preservation of hardware like this is - if not as important - at least as fascinating!

And still, I won't buy one. I doubt I'll ever earn enough money to make retro game collecting feasible, so I'll stick with collection retro game controllers and connecting them to PCs for faithful emulation ;)

Seriously. I bought The Legend of Zelda (the original one) 10 years ago for <10 Euros. Now it's over 100! And that's a super common game (I assume)!
Re:Miyazaki Tribute on Saturday November 19, 2016 @09:06AM (#12993525)
I saw it in theater when it came out (twice), and then later again a few years back.

Except in the latter case they clearly played it from DVD, interlaced even! At first I was like "I can't watch this!" but after 3 minutes I was so captivated I didn't even notice anymore!

From the article you linked:

> the first compiler for it was implemented in 1975

Re:Twitter is testing a new reply design on Monday October 31, 2016 @10:58AM (#12837306)
Honestly, looking at the screenshots I don't even know what's going on.
Re:Italy’s rarest pasta on Thursday October 20, 2016 @08:00AM (#12751546)
It's great to see the pasta-making in action, but damn, that guy is annoying.
Re:Designing and Producing 2FA tokens to Sell on Amazon on Monday September 26, 2016 @09:08AM (#12581460)
Holy shit, that looks amazing.

Almost make me want to exchange my O2 for a clear CMOY :D

Re:Pirates Plunder 4K Hateful Eight, but Did They Crack DCP? on Wednesday September 07, 2016 @03:52AM (#12441520)
Thing is, I'm poor, and it was roughly 3x the cost of the discounted ticket I usually use.

At minimum wage I would have paid about a day's salary, and thus I "boycotted" it.

Re:Pirates Plunder 4K Hateful Eight, but Did They Crack DCP? on Wednesday September 07, 2016 @03:08AM (#12441388)
Apparently there is ONE theater in the world (in California of course!) that shows it and it's REALLY GOOD.

EDIT: The one floating around the internet seems to be a fan cut. I'm curious how it holds up to the actual thing.

That's what I heard.

Also the the Roadshow cut of Hateful Eight. That was shown in more places. I could have seen it, but they asked for an arm and a leg, and I need those!

Re:Pirates Plunder 4K Hateful Eight, but Did They Crack DCP? on Wednesday September 07, 2016 @03:03AM (#12441373)
I'm assuming they reencoded it to something more efficient than mjpeg2000 (no idea what the "standard" pirate codec for 4k is).

EDIT: According to another comment it's H264.

And they all do what you, The Nerd, say. Prisoners are known to be well-behaved and respect Nerds! /s
I am so bad at this. Also, apparently I don't know the first thing about tennis.
Re:What Slack might learn from its Open Source alternative on Saturday August 27, 2016 @06:24AM (#12371783)
That's cool. Are they integrated well?
Re:Google Duo, a simple 1-to-1 video calling app on Tuesday August 16, 2016 @09:09AM (#12297201)
Yes, this my major complaint, too.

I have 3 Android devices and can use this only on the one that has a SIM card? And even if the others had SIM cards, they'd be on different accounts? WTF.

Re:Moving to GitLab: Yes, it's worth it on Saturday August 06, 2016 @01:36PM (#12238984)
Thanks for the link. More information about testing with Löve (heh, "with Love") would be wonderful, I'm only used to Enterprise Java, I'm afraid.
Re:Kinesis Advantage 2 on Saturday August 06, 2016 @01:34PM (#12238975)
Me too, simply because it's the only one I can find that has a trackpoint.
Re:Moving to GitLab: Yes, it's worth it on Friday August 05, 2016 @11:47AM (#12233196)
Very interesting! I remember trying your game a few months back, but I didn't have the time to really get into it.

I was thinking about making a game in Löve for a while now, but I have never done any automated testing with it.

Is there a good tutorial for that? Or do you feel like writing one? ;)

Re:The 19th Century plug that's still being used on Monday August 01, 2016 @10:30AM (#12202610)
I'm going to assume the sound is fine on the Soundblaster, but How is the battery on that thing?

Does it last the full day and them some, like my phone does?

I enjoyed that movie, the ending made me laugh so hard!

Note that that doesn't mean it's GOOD.

Re:Hack – CSS framework for Hackers on Sunday July 17, 2016 @08:54AM (#12110030)
Is there a good howto for these "CSS frameworks"?

I never used one and everyday there is another one on HN, confusing me with all its features xD

Re:Dispelling myths about the autistic programmer on Friday July 15, 2016 @10:31AM (#12101193)
Uh... that kind of "politics". I can't speak to that, I stay out of office drama, so I don't know who's instigating xD
If understood this right (I didn't take a close look at the 3MB Javascript), this is SSG running in the browser, from the static site. So you don't have to run anything (except a browser) on your local machine (not even git).
Re:Dispelling myths about the autistic programmer on Sunday July 10, 2016 @05:19AM (#12065055)
The funny thing is, all of my friends with autism are fiercely political. If you asked me, I'd probably say people with autism were MORE political than those without. Of course, none of my friends with autism work in software.
Re:The simple things I want in a text editor on Tuesday June 14, 2016 @07:29AM (#11901244)
I love the Jetbrains editor, I just wish I could open random files in it, without it trying to organize them into "projects" or whatever.
Re:The Golden Age of X86 Gaming on Saturday May 21, 2016 @04:02AM (#11743722)
Never heard of it, sorry.

Tobold was a very minor character in The Lord of the Rings (better known as Old Toby), so it's not an entirely original nickname ;)

Re:The Golden Age of X86 Gaming on Saturday May 21, 2016 @03:30AM (#11743638)
Yeah, when I read the title I expected a nostalgia piece about the late 90s and early 2000s.

Basically after the Amiga died and before the Xbox360 came out (I would say off the top of my hat).

Re:Forbes Tests New Tactics to Combat Ad Blocking on Saturday May 14, 2016 @06:18AM (#11695432)
So in exchange for not distributing malware they want my email address.

What could possibly go wrong?

Re:Day of the Tentacle Remastered on Wednesday March 23, 2016 @11:32AM (#11345353)
Yeah, when I saw the screenshots I immediately thought that it looked like the HQx filter.
