Hi HN, I've always wondered how to transform public GitHub profile data into something more tangible and understandable at a glance like follower locations. So I decided to build a web tool using D3. I chose React for rendering, built a custom TypeScript geocoder to map raw user locations to ISO country codes, and let D3 handle the map projection and svg generation.
how do you categorize 'super' and just vibecoded x'D
No signup or anything like this needed, and the Personal Access Token is optional, you just put any github user name and lunch it.

Show HN: GitCharta, generate a snapshot of any GitHub user's global network

https://gitcharta.vercel.app/

It just starts with how I could check if a person I followed on GitHub follows me back, or wanting to know if someone who starred my project started following me. I checked out some open source tools on GitHub and discovered a few, but the majority of them have limitations. First, they rely on the github rest api, so even if you decide to provide your PAT token, you are still stuck at around...

It's open source and you can check the code here : https://github.com/ThierryRakotomanana/Github-Audience-Atlas

Show HN: Audience Atlas, Map any GitHub user's followers and followings

https://github-audience-atlas.vercel.app/

My project localizes the audience of any GitHub user on a map, whether it's followers or following. It is written in TypeScript and is totally client side, it's built with React and D3 for the world map. I've made some updates and now you can just enter any gitHub user without necessarily putting in your PAT. It uses graphql to fetch all data first, but I've noticed some followings are missing...

Aks HN: Why does GitHub grapql API returns missing data?

My web application relies on the GitHub API. It fetches all the followers/following of a GitHub account and then tries to localize them by their country to show them on a map. The problem is that the gitHub graphQL api returns some missing data (on the following part in general). I investigated, and recently some users also reported some bugs too, like on mobile devices the number of following...

You're right, it's under the pressure that we progress the most. For once, I stepped out of my comfort zone and chatted with strangers more than ever before. x'D

Btw What's your project ?

Good idea, I will try to help him for that
Re:How do you guys keep up with AI news? on Saturday July 18, 2026 @07:28AM (#48957044)
I Just follow those I consider as among of the best in my field, I skipped everything that smells too much marketing and I avoid things like "X thing is dead..".
Thanks for pointing this, will keep that in mind.

Also thanks, as just by your comment I've discovered that there is a way to format comments :) https://news.ycombinator.com/formatdoc

Absolutely right ! Just received the first feedback by commenting on a post :) and for that, thanks HN !

I also thought that, but actually if you take a look. He take time to share real feedback. I think, that deserves to be shown, as many many projects didn't received any feedback and getting just one makes you feel better and motivate

Waouh! really appreciate this feedback

Yeah, you're completely right. A lot of them don't put their location on their profile, and their stats really vary. But I've noticed many US users do add their location.Talking about that, I will add stats on what percentage are located
You describe in few sentenses perfectly what happens now. Need some time to accept the actual situation, the shift hits too hard though
Yeah that's I noticed, but I need some time before being able to publish on Show HN
It's a web tool that visualizes your github network on a map and show where are they building from. It's open source, https://github.com/ThierryRakotomanana/Github-Audience-Atlas

My project are trying to respond to this question: "Where is your GitHub network building from?"? I called it GitHub Audience Atlas. It visualizes a GitHub user's network and shows them on a map by categories: followers, following, and ghosts (those who don't follow you back).

Next features : - convert the visualization into images/canvas - Zoom on country - being able to unfollow multiple user - show audience with no location

Where is your GitHub network building from?

was tired of looking at a raw list of my GitHub followers and always wondered where the people who follow me are building from. That's how I started building GitHub Audience Atlas. It visualizes a GitHub user's network and shows them on a map by categories: followers, following, and ghosts (those who don't follow you back). On the left, you can see the list of your audience by country (for those...

Good, I've started following you on X. No need to pay $20 for that x'D
Re:Are we getting dumber, or is the world just changing? on Thursday July 16, 2026 @01:09PM (#48937251)
That reminds me of a video that depicts the 2050 generation as asking GPT how to say "Hi" at a job interview. It's not real, but we are pretty close to it x'D
Re:Ask HN: How do you manage too many open tabs? on Thursday July 16, 2026 @11:19AM (#48935770)
I don't really control them, it just when I feel the system response becomes slow, I close every tab I don't need anymore.
Re:Help me be accountable with my time on Thursday July 16, 2026 @11:13AM (#48935703)
How is that possible x'D For that point, I can’t help you, sorry
