Apparently the craft is powered entirely by solar power, plus batteries, to work at night. A solar powered craft cannot maintain 130 knots.
I checked out Ian Tamblyn on Spotify. He has 319 monthly listeners. His top track has 11k plays. Is it because analog has more fidelity?
He lacks any kind of management experience.
Re:College Cheating Scandal: An Admissions Officer Speaks Out on Wednesday March 13, 2019 @10:13AM (#19378773)
You can't compare the reputation of a local elementary school versus Harvard.
Re:Update on Tesla Stores and Pricing on Monday March 11, 2019 @12:06PM (#19359991)
IMO, the bigger issue is the flip-flopping. It shows that not enough thought was put into the initial decision to close stores. How many other, non-visible decisions are being made on a whim?
Re:Nvidia to Acquire Mellanox for $6.9B on Monday March 11, 2019 @11:11AM (#19359512)
NVDA is worth 10x what they were 5 years ago.
10 words. "1" and "0"

fixed it for you.

I said "most movie screens", not a theatre with the best equipment.

My point is that the difference between 2k/4k/8k is noticeable, but not significant. NTSC, at 480i, was a magnitude worse than film.

The biggest cost in any metro area is land. There are few empty lots left to build on, and those go for a premium. Not going to give any specific listing publicity, but "$350,000 USD for 0.047 acres empty lot" is common in the residential parts of Atlanta. We recently paid $25M for 8 acres with abandoned warehouses on them, to build condos on. We're still looking at $100k land costs per condo.

Go out two counties and a 1.5 hour commute, and land is only $5k/acre. Plenty of $200k starter homes in that area. No one wants to move out there though.

Disclaimer - I work in the residential construction business

Here in the USA: Spotify: $10/month Netflix: $9/month

I'm unsure how Spotify and the Artists are not making good money. Are the record companies syphoning off all the profits?

You are comparing monthly subscription prices to daily bandwidth limitations.

$2 USD for 45GB monthly or $0.07 USD for 1.5GB/daily

Re:IP address can be written 121 ways on Monday March 04, 2019 @09:50AM (#19301669)
The list lists four different ways: dotted, decimal, hex and octal. The other 117 entries are just combinations of the four.
Counterpoint, maybe only films should be eligible for Oscars, as Oscars are for "film makers". Digital cameras would not qualify, right?

Seriously, there was a huge gulf in quality when the best home TV was 19" NTSC 4/3. Nowadays, my picture quality exceeds that of most movie screens (except for imax). I don't see any reason to differentiate.

Re:Cloudflare expands its government warrant canaries on Tuesday February 26, 2019 @12:58PM (#19256670)
The government can issue a gag order on a specific subject. This prevents you from disclosing the existence of a subpoena. However, the opposite is not true. The government cannot compel speech.

Sure, the government can take illegal actions...

However, they cannot force someone to make an untrue statement.

The radius of the earth + 30,000 ft is about 0.14% more than just the radius of the earth. Basically ignore it, unless you are programming guidance control systems.
Sure, there is a wage problem. My issue with the way the cost of one-bedroom apartment is calculated. It is based on the HUD fair market rents (FMRs) at the "40th percentile of rents that a family can be expected to pay". That means that 39% of one-bedroom apartments are cheaper than the rate given. If minimum wage people are supposed to have a 40% apartment, who is supposed to live in the 1-39% apartments, middle class?

I expect the lowest 10% of wage earners to live in the lowest 10% apartments. I'd like to see what these numbers would show then.

Wolf3D was 1992, 16 years before. SGI released OpenGL a few months later. IIRC, the first gfx cards were thousands of dollars. The first successful consumer gfx was 3DFX Voodoo2 in 1996. We take so much for granted nowadays.

Re:Life Off the Grid, Part 2: Playing Ultima Underworld on Friday February 01, 2019 @03:35PM (#19058271)
It's kinda like VHS vs Betamax. The cheaper hardware requirements allowed Wolf3D to win...
Re:Napster: A New Killer Internet App (1999) on Wednesday January 30, 2019 @08:55AM (#19035007)
There's 100 million paying Spotify subscribers that don't meet your "requirements". Ease of convenience trumps free (stealing).

How do you press "Escape"? did you remap it to another key?

Re:Strangeness of Black Holes on Friday January 18, 2019 @12:01PM (#18940676)
In circular motion, acceleration is always perpendicular to the velocity. While the velocity changes, the magnitude of the velocity (aka speed) stays constant.
Re:Netflix to raise prices by 13% to 18% on Tuesday January 15, 2019 @10:30AM (#18911801)

Just open up your mouse and rewire the buttons.
I agree we should switch to Proportional Representation. Unfortunately this would weak our duopoly parties, allowing third parties to win seats. So they (D&R) will never change the laws.

In a FPTP election, 10-20% of the votes are wasted on a 3rd party. In a PR election, 10-20% of the votes get 10-20% of the seats.

Re:Glitter bomb tricks parcel thieves on Tuesday December 18, 2018 @11:07AM (#18707583)
Hmm, I'd be worried about retribution. Spread glitter in someone's car, they might come back and torch your house. Assuming they can remember where they grabbed the package from.
Re:Glitter bomb tricks parcel thieves on Tuesday December 18, 2018 @11:06AM (#18707561)
Booby-trap is usually defined as "to cause bodily injury when triggered". Spreading glitter in someone's car isn't causing bodily injury. However, if the glitter caused someone to choke and die, or blinded an eye, then a crime would be committed.
That's just a specific type of gravity battery. The primary issue is the low power to weight ratio. Consider that pumped water is also a gravity battery. Think of how much water is behind one of those dams.
