Re:Ask HN: Mac vs. Linux for Development? on Monday May 07, 2018 @06:26AM (#17011628)
I use Linux as primary platform for development (C++, Java, Python, PHP) and Windows as secondary platform, as long as we deliver products for Windows.

MacOS is irrilevant for us, as long as the market share in Enterprise field is really low.

That would be great if corrupted politicians could be shamed on Billboards too

Maybe to contrast pumped prices for hardware found on other vendors' hardware, costing half or a third of it? (true especially for the entry level MacBooks, which have same hw of a 500€ laptops from Hp or Lenove

Re:Europe’s New Privacy Rules Favor Google and Facebook on Tuesday April 24, 2018 @03:02AM (#16910492)
why do you keep posting paywalled content?
It would be cool if it was a downloadable tool.
Planning to, not found a good replacement yet for Calendar and Mail (ProtonMail offers only 500MB for the free plan).

About Google Drive, I use Dropbox, Box and OneDrive too, but they are on the same boat.

I'm abandoning Evernote as well, as long as they don't have an easy exporting tool

Re:Ask HN: What tools do you use to automate your business? on Thursday April 19, 2018 @08:43AM (#16875381)
IFTT, Jenkins, Docker-compose
what about Google Assistant / Google Now?
I must say, she's doing a bad job then.

Where is the opt-out for reading GMail content? Or better written: why is the scanning of emails activated by default and not as opt-in? What about the preinstalled Android Google Services, which upload data continuously on Googles' Servers?

Re:Should we use [paywall] tag where applicable? on Wednesday April 18, 2018 @07:11AM (#16866314)

Re:Ask HN: Has open-sourcing every killed a company? on Thursday April 12, 2018 @06:14AM (#16819396)
look at Hashicorp: all their products are opensource and I think it's not disappearing in the next years.

Packer, Vagrant, Terraform...they are largely adopted and it makes Hashicorp in a strong position

i can feel about the same time for Java 8 to Java 11, where 9 and 10 are transitional and with a really low level of engagement, especially for thrid-party libraries, kicking the jar-hell again
the point is, it relies on JavaScript feature, right?
Re:Ask HN: How do you talk to your GitHub community? on Monday April 09, 2018 @08:48AM (#16792505)
The free plan allows you only to keep the latest 10K messages. And it tends to be messy
Re:Ask HN: What photogrammetric software do you use and why? on Thursday April 05, 2018 @03:11AM (#16762572)
Agisoft is quite a beast, producing good results at a price
Re:JDK 10: General Availability on Wednesday March 21, 2018 @07:30AM (#16637087)
what about OpenJDK with OpenJFX? Building by myself it's an overkill task (it requires Qt for Webkit), especially on more platforms. I think it's a pity there are no public available releases of OpenJDK with included JavaFX out there.

When Oracle will remove it in Java11, it would be even worse

from scratch, less than 4 hours, including all the tools needed
