Even with a YAGI or a dedicated pole antenna, both tuned to 868 MHz, the range in my location is quite poor. The signal seems to drop off quickly, even after walking just a kilometer down the road. While I understand that height is key (and my antennas are fairly high), it appears that 868 MHz attenuates very rapidly.
So, to reiterate, I don't believe Meshtastic is a particularly effective solution. The principle behind it is sound, but the practical execution falls short. I think established methods like Hamnet and traditional amateur radio are far superior, especially now with SDRs making a simple handheld radio incredibly affordable (around €20)
If you're lucky you can desolder the the old battery and use a couple of pin headers to get you back up and running. I do find it irritating some retro machines wont even boot without a working battery.

In short, no.
You have to be careful, but I wonder if giving a developer access to their own progress/burndown would be an encouragement for those who arn't quite so self motivated.
Unfortunately there's still a lot of legacy managers and people who make the transition tricky. If you can start from the ground up, or at least foster it within teams that's great.
I would suggest providing a hint to the remote content. For example, if it is an image - state it, maybe with a preview.
It would also be useful to filter out 'tabloid' sites like reddit (or restrict it to /r/programming /r/sec etc).
Some mechanism to preview content or view their content in a consistent style would be nice as it can be a bit jarring going to Slashdot from an otherwise clean interface
[edit] Probably worth mentioning the labels on the left don't seem to do anything on chrome and if you resize the background remains at the same height.

My most popular release is very event centric which means tons of anonymous inner classes polluting the code and making the entire thing quite aesthetically displeasing.
With Android Studio (IntellJ), Gradle and hopefully Groovy a lot of that noise and pain can be removed. I would be dubious moving over to that or Scala until the Big G approves but it speaks reams for the future.
I does sadden me that Groovy has fallen by the wayside these years (as primarily Groovy developer) given it is such a jump over Java. Scala looks great but for the type of apps (web/mobile) it still is rather verbose and slow to compile - not ideal for RAD imo. With Java 8 coming it's good to see they've taking Lambas over, even if it's a bit clunky.
On a more serious note, what do other devs feel about working at startups themselves (freelance + perm)? The only I nearly got involved in was folded within 6 months. I'd have potentially been in a very bad situation as a result had I gone through with it.
[edit] I'd do piece meal work. Throw in hours along side my regular job but going full time without a decent golden parachute would worry me.
