Re:Google responds to the Mocality blog post on Saturday January 14, 2012 @04:53AM (#3463920)
The guy talking to businesses wasn't talking on his own behalf. He was representing Google and acting on Google's behalf. It's stupid to suggest that he was doing this for his own profit.
Re:Microsoft now paid royalties on 70% of US Android smartphones on Saturday January 14, 2012 @04:48AM (#3463918)
Google not only makes money off of Apple products but pretty much any product from where one can search. That includes all the android devices as well. Which makes you wonder why are they pushing android at all. People are used to using Google so no matter what OS, they are going to use it anyways Why spend billions of dollars developing and defending it?
Re:Nokia announces the Lumia 800, the 'first real Windows Phone' on Wednesday October 26, 2011 @05:33AM (#3157769)
Probably was necessary to keep the beautiful hardware intact to change the guts completely in less than a year. Look at iPhone 4S. Almost no visual changes in exterior in a year and a half and the OS didn't change that much either... why change the looks of something that is already so beautiful.
Re:Nokia announces the Lumia 800, the 'first real Windows Phone' on Wednesday October 26, 2011 @05:27AM (#3157752)
Here: see for yourself. http://www.nokia.co.uk/gb-en/products/phone/lumia800/

The 710 looks ok but the 800 is pretty nice imo.

Re:Nokia announces the Lumia 800, the 'first real Windows Phone' on Wednesday October 26, 2011 @05:24AM (#3157748)
The 800 basically looks like N9 with Windows Phone OS on it. Hope the OS has met its match in this hardware. The pictures sure look stunning.
Re:Re-inventing Android : Ice Cream Sandwich on Friday October 21, 2011 @02:31PM (#3141030)
I love how they copied the people UI and the addressbook from Windows Phone. Good ideas are to be copied. Thanks for bringing them to android.
Re:Steve Wozniak is first in line for iPhone 4S on Friday October 14, 2011 @03:35AM (#3110373)
Somebody teach him how to preorder.
Re:Microsoft's acquisition of Skype is a done deal on Friday October 14, 2011 @03:32AM (#3110368)
If only this gets integrated with the windows phone, I will be so happy. With the FB chat integration I have already dropped my sms plan as most of my messaging is now via FB. If I get skype, I will go on bare minimum voice plan too.
Re:Yahoo stock soars on new buzz of Microsoft deal on Thursday October 06, 2011 @01:42AM (#3079177)
Here we go again. Last time we saw a similar headline, it did not end well for either comany. Hope the rumor dies away soon.
Re:India unveils world's cheapest tablet computer for $35 on Thursday October 06, 2011 @01:40AM (#3079172)
What india badly needs is giving its village dweling population access to good basic education.

I hope this computer facilitates that need. I have visited rural parts and have seen schools that barely have the most basic infrastructure such as a proper school building and full time teacher.

Re:Microsoft Explains Why the Start Menu Needed to Die on Wednesday October 05, 2011 @01:29AM (#3074361)
Service packs have been there before and even after 00s.
Re:Microsoft Explains Why the Start Menu Needed to Die on Wednesday October 05, 2011 @01:25AM (#3074352)
Exactly. I think Windows will have to do an awesome job at finding the tool for me. Because my mom and dad won't remember that the program that they use to view pictures is called irfanview.
Re:"Sorry Larry, the cloud can't be stopped" on Wednesday October 05, 2011 @01:21AM (#3074345)
Exactly another company that is known more for the chatter their CEO makes than the Chatter it sells.
How about windows phone then? Better UI than android more capabilities than iPhone. Comparable low return rates.

Its another thing that People don't know about it because of Microsoft's poor image and marketing.

Re:.Net Developer Shortage on Tuesday October 04, 2011 @01:44PM (#3071974)
I doubt that is the case. With employment at record highs and good jobs not available I don't think people would rather sit idle than take up a job in .Net. The article can also be rephrased as "Demand for .Net developers surges." Of course it won't be as newsworthy then :)
Re:Apple's 'Let's Talk iPhone' keynote liveblog on Tuesday October 04, 2011 @01:37PM (#3071944)
Saw this on Engadget:

1:26PM That got applause. People seem desperate to clap for something. That was it.

Pretty much sums up what we have seen so far

Windows Phone is an infant platform as compared to Apple and Android. But yet look at how fast they learnt after the NoDo delays. Have you gotten the Mango update yet? It rolled out to exsting phones already. And that is not just in US but worldwide. How many updates has Android pushed so soon to its existing phones and that too so widely?
Thats why I love the Windows Phone and Apple model rather than android. Windows Phone has had more and frequent updates and they are delivered more consistently across carriers. Same is true for Apple.
Re:Google Joins Apple in Push for Tax Holiday on Sunday October 02, 2011 @12:42PM (#3063246)
And the consumer demand is very directly influenced by the job market. With so many people out of work. Many of us who do have jobs are cautious to not spend beyond our means. Its a vicious circle.

Of course the goal of a public company to make money I can't blame these guys to hoarde all the money they can. Thats what their shareholders and directors demand.

You never know it may be built but just not released. I think its perfectly fair to patent it even though it sounds creepy. The expectation of privacy are changing in people's minds. Probably Facebook thinks that they want to keep the feature ready and not release it until the time is right. And obviously if anybody else releases it before them (most likely Google) then they can use the patent to prevent them from doing so.
Re:Google And Monopoly Theater on Monday September 26, 2011 @12:06AM (#3037605)
In fact Google copied this from Bing. But the difference is that Google is a search monopoly whereas bing is just a distant second or third depending how you look at it.
Re: Facebook Disconnect on Sunday September 25, 2011 @02:33AM (#3035258)
Sometimes I get a feeling that the hivemind of HN is critical of anything that is not associated google. I could be wrong as I am a fairly new user. But that's just what I have observed in last few weeks.
Re:Yahoo Is for Sale After All on Saturday September 24, 2011 @11:55AM (#3033481)
I think M already got out of yahoo what they wanted. Why buy the cow when you can get milk for cheap? It appeared like a win-win for both now only if yahoo could execute on their mission to be a great media company...
Re:Not Sharing Is Caring on Friday September 23, 2011 @03:03AM (#3029135)
Where did you see automatic sharing of everything. From what I read, you will always have control of what you share. They can't afford to repeat the past mistakes around sharing. It'd be fatal now.
Re:Not Sharing Is Caring on Friday September 23, 2011 @03:02AM (#3029131)
The full list of updates is still there on the left side where you have a live stream of updates flowing all the time. Of course it fills up real quick but its still there. Also on the left side they have list tabs using which you can go to the old familiar UI. I for one like the newer UI better.
Re:What should Apple do with the iPod? on Thursday September 22, 2011 @10:43PM (#3028636)
Keep it around. Its a hook to get people to use the mac ecosystem. That's the product that started the resurrection of mac. I'm sure Apple will keep it around and keep on making minor changes to it overtime.
Re:Not Sharing Is Caring on Thursday September 22, 2011 @10:40PM (#3028627)
More than sharing it is closer to broadcasting all my activities to my friends. But I think Facebook is onto something here. What if this broadcast in future can be curated and only interesting things get displayed automatically. What if it looks at what our friends are doing and gets recommendations? Excessive sharing is just the first steps towards this.
Re:Bring a stick man to life. on Thursday September 22, 2011 @03:49AM (#3025261)
Yup. That is my favorite game on Windows Phone.
