Re:Is the industry ready for tokens-constrained work? on Sunday August 16, 2026 @10:01AM (#49320173)
Simply put token spending is way overblown, and prices have fallen and should continue to do so, as the pricing power of frontier Labs dissapate.

So is Nintendo Online a popular service? I'm curious if I should get it.

Yes, but what would lead to Apple's decline? Sure, you can say that everything can decline; all I am doing is articulating why they can be around for a very long time, considering the competitive dynamics surrounding the company.

Well its not the only enterprise tool, but from the perspective of llm delivering enterprise spexifc insights
Re:Discovery Loop on Wednesday August 05, 2026 @01:56PM (#49186428)
yes perhaps, although I think the best option for a enterprise is to train a model on it's own data.
Re:Discovery Loop on Wednesday August 05, 2026 @01:11PM (#49185791)
The problem is all these new labs don't have any competitive advanatge amongst each other, talent can only take one so far, though Jeff is a legend no doubt.

Models are commodities the applications eg. BaseTen, OpenRouter should capture the value.

Do You Think OpenAI Is Apple Circa the 1980s?

OpenAI is a deeply mismanaged company. Most recently, a blog post that feels like it has got to have dozens of PR violations, responding to the Apple lawsuit.More broadly, OpenAI’s main problem is that it does not have a real competitive advantage. No real models do; the real differentiation is price; they will become commodities. The need to move upwards in the market in enterprise software is...

Xbox failed aggregation; Microsoft should exit the business.

OpenAI has the right strategy, but is unlucky

Odd, regardless, OpenAI is spreading itself too thin, trying to fight wars on the enterprise, consumer, and hardware fronts, and will likely end up losing them all.

Models are a lost cause anyway - https://open.substack.com/pub/taikhooms/p/why-openrouter-can...

Is Snap Inc Back?

Summary -Snap Inc.’s business model is changing. Wall Street has tagged the company as an advertising company, which has been the dominant model for most of the companies’ short time in the public market (9 years). But over the last two years, it has seen growth in one segment that is unrelated to advertising, and has a marginal cost of selling near zero.Snap+ is the subscription business for...

As in apple has a consumer brand which creates a sense of status, and then a developer ecosystem which has to develop for Apple since they have the highest paying consumers, and a they have services which create switching costs if you try leaving the ecosystem as a consumer
Re:Ask HN: Can Apple Ever Be Disrputed? on Monday August 03, 2026 @01:37PM (#49158980)
How so? None of those were directly consumer companies.
Re:Ask HN: What Is Stripe Today? on Monday August 03, 2026 @03:58AM (#49152605)
That is a unique angle I did not think about - I did try to explain why I think it is an aggregator nonetheless.

Ask HN: What Is Stripe Today?

I think Stripe’s internal strategy is a consolidation of products within its sector. Similar across other industries, such as cybersecurity, where I think Cloudflare is attempting to do the same. The broader idea is clearly enterprise consolidation. I think now is the correct period in the technology cycle for such consolidation. The influx of many enterprise companies was due to the advent from...

Yes, but Apple has two-sided lock-in, in terms of a brand and consumer pricing power, as well as ecosystem lock-in through services.

Disagree; regardless of the hardware change, Apple will release its take, and people will continue to use it. I write about the dynamic of a double-sided lock-in here: https://taikhooms.substack.com/p/apple-has-the-lowest-disrup...

Definitely love Clayton's work though, happy to connect - [email protected]

No on smartphones while Apple's market share by revenue is like 20 ish %, they have like 80% of the industry's profits. If you're interested in the specific dynamic, check this out - https://taikhooms.substack.com/p/apple-has-the-lowest-disrup...
Re:Ask HN: Can Apple Ever Be Disrputed? on Friday July 31, 2026 @11:50AM (#49124619)
Respectfully, you're wrong here. You may, in your opinion, not use Google Search, but search revenue is growing rapidly, and AI overviews are a much better experience than a consumer app.

Should Airbnb Add Ads?

Advertising is inherently about monetizing user attention. There are many technology companies today that may not seem like advertising companies on the outside, yet inherently rely on ads as a fundamental part of their business.Advertising as a business model has a few great dynamics. Firstly, there is no cost to serve these ads on your platform, so there is inherently 100% margin. As your...

Perhaps, maybe the modular tech future? Framebook is interesting, but that is likely a niche market. If you are interested, I tried to articulate what keeps Apple around specifically here - https://open.substack.com/pub/taikhooms/p/apple-has-the-lowe...

Ask HN: Can Apple Ever Be Disrputed?

Curious to know, just wondering about Apple and its current position. It feels like there is no way it can be unseated. It has customer lock-in in terms of the brand, as well as the subscriptions and ancillary devices to the iPhone. Developers will not stop developing for Apple, considering they are missing out on a large, if not the majority of their potential market. No hardware company can...
