Except that the version most distributions that are ridding themselves of python2 are using is a new python3 ported version. As far as I know the maintainer of that repository isn't touching it anymore, which is why it isn't linked. https://asciidoc3.org/
I've also had this happen to me- driving from Boone, North Carolina to Charlotte, I usually avoid highways because the interstates are a bit overwhelming to me. I took one different turn as I was trying to avoid downtown in a rural city I was driving through; they were having a block party and the usual route was blocked off. It's routed me through that turn ever since, so saying Google is learning from where people drive even enough to start making routes, that doesn't seem too farfetched for me.
TIGER's great, but if you're going to use it you might as well just use OpenStreetMap in the end; a lot of the data in the US is based on TIGER data and then reviewed, as TIGER has had a lot of issues with things like misnamed roads and misalignments of roads.
It's awesome to see that even Hacker News isn't immune to transphobia and falling into the lie that being transgender is ignoring biology. What a load of trash.

I looked up the author, and discovered that Libby Emmons is a transphobe (or more accurately a trans-exclusionary radical feminist), at least from reading this one in which she tries to posit that trans women are just in it because we're objectifying misogynistic parodies of women. Great. http://thefederalist.com/2015/06/03/how-the-hypersexual-tran... (check out that weak attempt to reference Kant's thing in itself near the end and how it completely misses the point that it is non-physical- which is exactly what gender is insisted to be by many trans people)

I felt so silly trying to zoom in and see satellite images of my house as it was 240M years ago.

Arm-chair diagnosing someone you don't agree with with psychological issues isn't very helpful to a conversation, you know.

Let it end.
Re:Bluetooth 5 Now Available on Thursday December 08, 2016 @04:26PM (#13134450)
Will it still kill my laptop's wifi connection speed if I try to use it?
You know, cgit does come with two example syntax highlighting scripts... :)

Don't read the comments!
Re:Twitter suspends 'alt-right' accounts on Wednesday November 16, 2016 @08:53PM (#12973522)
I think you may be right. :)
Re:Twitter suspends 'alt-right' accounts on Wednesday November 16, 2016 @08:34PM (#12973414)
I did, and I agree it was neutral. I'm referring to the conversation that always follows these sorts of things. People insisting that free speech means neo-nazis should be allowed to spread their message of hate.
Re:Twitter suspends 'alt-right' accounts on Wednesday November 16, 2016 @08:27PM (#12973376)
Why do we keep being encouraged to believe that the hate speech of neo-nazis is worth preserving?

Some of these CSS ones have to be a joke. Using CSS based font creation? Seriously?
Re:Falsehoods programmers believe about networks on Monday October 24, 2016 @04:34AM (#12777377)
This is effectively the problem with all of these "things programmers assume" articles: they give no solutions and effectively just moan about possible problems.
Re:The Atlantic to Ad Blockers: Pay Up or Leave on Tuesday October 18, 2016 @04:14AM (#12732862)
"The new prompt [to disable ad blocking] will appear on the Atlantic’s site Monday but will not take full effect until the site is finished transitioning from HTTP to HTTPS, [...] once complete, ad-blocking users will no longer be able to read content on the site without disabling their software or buying the new subscription."

I'm just really excited to see how on earth they plan to follow through with that vague threat. I don't believe I've ever seen an ad block plugin get successfully thwarted in a way the plugin couldn't just filter out itself.

This is a little underwhelming.
Re:Atom 1.9 and 1.10 beta on Monday August 01, 2016 @08:59PM (#12207197)
They still don't have a way to build a release without a network connection. Which basically means any secure (builds in sandbox) source-based distro can't package it.
You would be better off selling services akin to what GitLab does for sustenance.
What on earth is that license?
Re:The Doomed Effort to Make Videos Go Vinyl on Saturday October 10, 2015 @04:26PM (#10366859)
I always thought CEDs looked so cool. What I really want to see is how they're created though, and what they'd sound like on a turntable...
Re:Show HN: Beginning, a work-in-progress init system on Thursday September 10, 2015 @12:09AM (#10196098)
OpenRC was actually what I tried before making this, but my experience with it is part of what resulted in the creation of Beginning. It wanted to be a modern replacement for sysvinit and such, but ended up taking a lot of sysvinit's cruft and, in my opinion, ends up being too complex for what I wanted it for.

I'm not sure I agree with the comment about it being Bash-driven, though. I chose bash because it's readily available and had been proven to work fine from what systems I studied (namely OpenBSD and Arch Linux's initscripts). Being a modern replacement is not what I'm looking for, I just want to make something different that doesn't needlessly complicate.

Re:Steve Wozniak On Education, Engineering and Apple on Monday September 07, 2015 @10:04PM (#10183865)
Not sure this comes as a surprise; wasn't he basically just the business and promotion side of it until sometime after those models?
Re:Show HN: Beginning, a work-in-progress init system on Monday September 07, 2015 @02:09AM (#10180281)
Hi HN, I've been working on this for a while and I was looking for some feedback on it. I've been using it on my laptop, servers, etc. without issues for a few months.
