Ask HN: How to study a language with FT job and side hustle?

What language study methods have folks here had success with? I'm working full-time and doing side hustles so I'm pretty tired at the end of the day.I've tried setting aside an hour in the morning for Duolingo or Anki but 1. I absolutely hate them, it's so boring and painful and the words I learn never come up in conversation 2. it's so tempting to skip it and get started on "real work".Ideas?

No, I have used a few accountants in the past when I was a nomad but never found someone I'd recommend. I'd love to hear from any others here if they have someone they'd recommend, since I could use a new one myself.
Washington is a great place to be! If you start a digital nomad trip from there, your state taxes will be as simple as possible.

Regarding being dual-taxed, the US has dual taxation treaties with almost every country, so you can deduct the taxes you pay to another country from your US taxes. e.g. If you move to France, you'll pay taxes there, and when you file in the US you'll get credit for those taxes paid. There are numerous other complications for federal taxes as well! But you probably won't flat-out pay double.

> In addition, the new APIs allow developers to more quickly show content to users by starting to fetch data before a component renders. Prefetching data in this way is not possible with the container-based APIs.

This is fantastic, prefetching can make for a great user experience.

Ask HN: NYC tips to reduce burn rate?

I'm currently changing my NYC spending from "comfortable software engineer salary" to "startup founder" to prepare for someday leaving my job and concentrating on a startup. Current plan is to move to decrease rent (maybe go back to having roommates), cook instead of seamless, ride my bike more, and try to decrease my student loan payments.Anyone have any other ideas or tips? I've been a...

Hi! Founder here. Thanks for finding a bug in my privacy policy, I'll fix that. :/

I wrote a rails web app running on heroku. For the game server binaries, I spun up a server in a data center and control it using bash scripts that run in background jobs on heroku. I wrote jobs to do various tasks, like update config file, restart server, create initial server.

Let me know if you want more info!

Re:How Bad Are Zillow “Zestimates”? on Monday December 05, 2016 @12:31PM (#13107216)
This article deserves the heavy criticism it has received here. I'll go further and say it is part of a trend you might call skepticism gone wrong. This is a intellectual movement that "throws the baby out with the bathwater" because they are so skeptical that they don't believe anything!

Many authors in this vein have read about, for example, cognitive bias, the many invalid results in scientific journals and the hoax/fake news/infowars trend. They see every human action as a result of bias, every result as invalid, and every news article as part of a misinformation campaign.

Having the most accurate possible understanding of the world we live in is only possibly by trusting information sources which deserve it, understanding the limits of what "quick and dirty" statistical analysis is capable of, and recognizing when people are influenced by bias, and also when people are acting with full awareness of bias.
