I try to be an optimist but sometimes it's hard to picture a bright future.
Not sure if you are the author but there's a typo in the Introduction:
> The mathematical real numbers clearly play play a central role
Plus you get all the additional benefits of the great outdoors!
Anyone care to do a summary? It seems quite interesting.
"this app wants access to your microphone: YES/NO"
Just fucking use tails if you are a terrorist intent on murdering billions of people.
I'm hoping we can finish some of Tolkien's unpublished books (Please give me beta access OpenAI heh)
I run a bunch of websites with none of this nonsense and as such don't need to bother inserting an annoying interstitial for millions of hits telling people about laws in a world far removed from my own or theirs.
> I personally don't see how allowing users to manually disable automatic updates makes a product any more secure
There's tangible security benefits allowing users to update at will, not everyone lives in the same world or faces the same threats, a gay peace activist in Azerbaijan doesn't live the same life as a software developer in Atherton, CA.
A simple notification of security updates is sufficient for the most part to ride ahead of the never-ending wave of vulnerabilities.
Having the simple choice to do so is quite desirable for many people.
Life doesn't need to be like this if you have no business there.
put it in a ~/.ssh/config or /etc/ssh/ssh_config
why type this stuff over and over?
Don't think it's devolved at all this has been the norm from the 80's onwards (perhaps earlier).
Look at how fractured open source is today and the sort of egos that come with it everywhere you look. While the points made in this article are valid, it's great that someone is incentivising people to interact with various projects rather than do their own thing rather than climb blindly up the same treacherous mountains others have done long ago.
Hey, also why not rewrite it in rust :)
Being a contrarian is easy, fixing these well acknowledged problems is hard.
At least local journalists are waking up to how bad it is with the wealthy suddenly throwing their weight around and taking every paper in the nation to court over a few words.
A terrible import from the UK. Despite all the nastiness and bad words, protected free speech is what the US really did get right.
All laws can be used in a multitude of unintended ways, something lawmakers never really consider.
Tor's pluggable transports also have been at this stuff for a long time.
The internet is for everyone.
Not following here, instead of process you mean no requirement to do so? The process is pretty clear and simple, there's a few different frameworks being built for smart contract formal verification along with the traditional methods working fine.
What was the last bit of code you wrote or used that was formally verified?

It's questionable whether he was doing it alone or even the head operator. But apparently it's all case closed now with no Dread Pirate Roberts type sensational court cases or extradition trial.
Also which country had him executed? I'm very certain it wasn't Thailand.
The "No Third Rails" section just screams SE. So many times I've found a question that is exactly what I am asking only for the responses/comments to be filled with "Don't do that, do this instead" as though there's not a single person on the planet who has different usecases or needs than the __current paradigm__. The whole question then gets derailed and ends up useless yet still at the top of search results.
> JPMorgan
The answer is in the headline.
Technically, the shares will probably be held in a trust.
I wouldn't underestimate the western multicopter scene and their ongoing hilarious shenanigans against the world's biggest drone maker.
This article is 3 years old now, you'd be mistaken thinking people gave up being given bigger challenges: https://www.vice.com/en_us/article/3knkgn/dji-is-locking-dow...
Lay your own beds with that stuff. It's only a matter of time before you'll live in shame for what comes out and probably write woeful blogposts about how fooled you were and now so enlightened never again to repeat such clear mistakes.
Having self-worth really isn't that hard. Selling yourself and all your friends for pennies is incredibly easy though, which is what is happening here.
Please keep digging those graves. The internet never forgets, nor forgives. The internet is forever, make no mistake.
Which nation refuses to sign more international treaties than any other and is actively working to retroactively disengage and absolve themselves of the responsibility they signed up for? Hint: It's not China. [1]
China was explicitly banned from the ISS program[2], you'll let the Saudis who stone adulterers to death in the streets but for some reason China can't possibly participate in the only hope for humanity to unite as one.
China's space program is offering a lot to the scientific world and they keep pushing forward despite US efforts to stop everyone on Earth collaborating with them. Their lunar base and farside radio telescope plans have some in the interantional community willing to give a big fu to those from overseas who demand we ignore what they are doing.
Breaking out of your bubble is a good thing now and then.
Any country taking sides in the coldwarV2.0 game is getting played and you will be left behind. Look after yourself.

It's the lowest rung of where nation states target and you've just handed it to them on a platter.
As horrible as it sounds you all sort of deserve it for selling your soul to such a horrendous platform hellbent on fucking with its users. For some reason we're all worried about tiktok now though.
Sounds wonderful, along with the accrued online karma points. As great as one person is, they will never be the upstream source.
Here's my ppa also, I have a proven track record of updating browsers with security hotfixes hours before anyone else, but on the downside I really don't secure my system at all and leave my laptop unattended in Starbucks, please subscribe:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:TOTALLYNOTMALWARE/chromium-beta
sudo apt update
sudo apt install chromium-browser
