Re:Google adds verbatim search mode for your exact search terms
on Wednesday November 16, 2011 @10:02AM (#3243311)
Just tried it with verbatim but results are still no good =( I can see how it is doing exactly what it is told to do ("www.yelp.com/events"), but not what I would like. I like the idea of being able to do verbatim searches though! (and still miss the + button...)

This sounds like it has potential, although I can't test it yet. You should try searching Google for information on COM programming. Try finding information on "COM Events", for example. Good luck. Macy's is on the the first page! Bing is not any better.

Visual Studio may not be the choice environment for many HN'ers, but if you are stuck using it I made free extension to make #regions in Visual Studio less noticeable and work a bit better.

The font of the headers looks a bit jagged for me for some reason. Not sure why but it really stands out. You may want to look into that.

You should have two options, one to use my account, one to use a sample account. People would probably view the sample first, and then if they were interested then they might sign in themselves.

My first submission to Hacker News (I hope I didn't screw it up). This project may not be relevant to many of you, but any feedback on the app or the website would be greatly appreciated!

Re:My Google Rejection Letter

Sometimes companies would rather miss a good person than accidentally hire a bad person. Google has no shortage of candidates, so they can turn down good hires and still fill their positions with other good hires. If they don't hire someone, it isn't always reflective of the candidate (although it can be).

I would make the Sign Up button big, bold, and colorful. Check out the download button on this page: http://www.phonegap.com/ (just an example, I'm not affiliated with them). See how it's big and colorful and really stands out. Also note that your logo shouldn't be larger than your call to action button. I have to search for yours.

Didn't he distribute his tools to others though, and isn't that what they are going after him for? If he said he hacked his PS3 but didn't tell anyone.. I don't think they would have a case.

I like how your homepage has some personality! I'm not sure if the content for the blog will be appropriate for your customers, though. If so, you should give it some personality too and work on the design a bit.
Re:Show HN: Super-simple company signup with Google/Facebook

You really need to work on your website content. The design is very nice, but after TRYING to figure out what it does (which most people wont do) I really don't have a clue. Your about page is a bunch of marketing speak which doesn't mean anything and the home page isn't much better. What can you do for me and what is my problem that you are trying to solve? The tour gets close, so move much of that to the home page and try again. I really like how the site looks but I don't know what it does... sorry.
Re:ILSpy is the open-source .NET assembly browser and decompiler.

There is a difference in "They still offer a crippled freebie for download on there site" and "They disable the version that I have on my computer that works just fine, and force me to pay money for features I may not be interested in". If they don't want to offer a free/old/crippled version anymore, I don't blame them. But if I already have the software installed on my pc today, and tomorrow it doesn't work, that's really lame.
Re:ILSpy is the open-source .NET assembly browser and decompiler.
on Thursday February 17, 2011 @10:13AM (#2231162)
The money grubbing part is that the existing free version will expire and you will no longer be able to use it. So even if you are willing to use the existing product (which doesn't require a "dedicated team of developers"), you are out of luck.
