Is the "k-word" the Arabic for infidel? If yes, were there a lot of Arabs/Arabic speakers in South Africa?
Can you use "hey everyone" or does that offend schizophrenics?
Re:Lula wins election after final votes tallied on Monday October 26, 2026 @05:43AM (#50241322)
Lula was the incumbent. What does Russia have to do with anything?

Bolsanaro (the fellow in jail/house arrest) is the one favoured by Trump.

I'm told this is due to 3 of 4 generations of academics using the techniques from the Frankfurt School. Their grand-students would never have seen unbiased reporting as they've been taught to look at things through "lenses," and worse: "intersectional lenses."

Manufactured outrage.

Re:The Fall of Scientific American on Monday October 26, 2026 @05:08AM (#50241076)
There are some people who just follow you around and downvote.
Re:The Fall of Scientific American on Monday October 26, 2026 @05:06AM (#50241062)
It's visible right there in their vocabulary:

"Reporting" is replaced with "story," so journalists no longer journal - i.e. keep a record of what events took place, but turn it into a "story." A story has to have interesting elements, so now the creative writing has to be demonstrated, with a "hook" and a "narrative."

And instead of number of subscribers, they count "eyeballs" and "clicks" and "clickthroughs."

These things are highly subjective, but when I used to subscribe to the physical magazine, the tone of even the political articles was neutral.
Re:The Fall of Scientific American on Monday October 26, 2026 @01:44AM (#50239592)
I used to subscribe to SciAm, just looked at their website after around 3 years, and the lead article is "Why partisan politics may be changing people's accents."

The Atlantic went the same way, but as more mainstream magazine, that's kind of okay. Not acceptable for SciAm.

A decent human being doesn't pray for "glassing" a country.

Their language chauvinism is a sign of insecurity and indeed caused their current predicament: The Ukraine is the only country in the world which has banned a language: Russian.
Neutral country? They were collaborating with NATO.
Vote banks. Look it up.
Re:Finland Buying a Million Landmines on Wednesday October 21, 2026 @11:21PM (#50190780)
It's Russia, not Ruzzia.

Only on western propaganda outlets does one get accused of being paid to tell the truth.

Go learn some real history. Hint: a book, not Wikipedia.

Projection much?
Re:Finland Buying a Million Landmines on Wednesday October 21, 2026 @08:35AM (#50179867)
Disagree.

It may be politically incorrect to call "The Borderlands" "The Ukraine," but it's grammatically correct.

Re:Finland Buying a Million Landmines on Wednesday October 21, 2026 @08:20AM (#50179679)
Trump is motivated by money, he's seen there's nothing left in The Ukraine for him.
Re:Finland Buying a Million Landmines on Wednesday October 21, 2026 @08:19AM (#50179664)
But EU/NATO leaders think that after The Ukraine, Paris is next.

Are they also going to revive their concentration camps?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/East_Karelian_concentration_ca...

We have a "minority" which votes en masse and can sway the results of an election.

Is that still a minority? I invite you to introspect more. It's not complicated either.

10% is all you need as a vote bank to flip an election.
mailinator works.
At what point does a minority become a majority? Is that defined?
Narrative control. Now second order articles can be written which quote only the summaries.

Propaganda works like this; they know most people won't dig any further than the headline and summaries.

We already have this, it's called Wikipedia.
Especially the 1971 war, where they won so well that East Pakistan became a new country.
Russia should have done exactly what NATO did to Yugoslavia et al.

Unfortunately they are too nice for their own good.

You Europeons should thank your stars that President Putin is a man of restraint; someone like Nobel Peace Prize Winner Barack Hussain would have wrecked Europe overnight.

You probably think The Ukraine is winning as well.
Well they're more powerful than all the Baltic statelets and Scandinavian "countries" combined, so I'll give you that.
