This is truly saddening for the scientific community and for the world in general.

His life and work will continue to ripple the very fabric of our civilization.

And now that his task is done, He will take his place... amongst the legends of the past.

Okay congrats ..you are a billionaire on paper, now what?

What was the point of this article ?- To showcase an already predictable scenario ?

Either way, congratulations nonetheless, I do admire and respect the work they put in for Stripe.

I see where you are coming from and I thank you for taking your time to answer in such detailed oriented form.

Is true that “if you look for it, you will find it”, Yet experiences are a often influenced by various psychological and environmental componets. The fact that we have different experiences is absolutely natural, thus I’m capable of comprehending your argument.

I was simply stating my thought analogy based on my past experiences.

Since is rather hard to measure such statements (in a quantitative way) I shall be skeptical of other people’s “experiences”. Thus staying true to my thought process, until I manage to find a common ground by truly “experiencing” what some call “mindfulness “.

I agree with your argument discribing the fact that, I should not judge a single chronological event as means to an end. I should rather reason by first principle rather than by analogy.

There is a lot of infrastructural work behind a university. Why would a tech giant deviate some of its capital to train people in a specific field within the corporation? Besides having to pay for the student to attend and graduate, they would also have to pay them a competitive salary afterwards ? What specifically is the advantage point ?
Between being a placebo and a straight up pseudoscience(if I even were to call it a “science”) in my opinion “mindfulness” is a type of pavlovian conditioning design to establish a self-empathy defense mechanism within our minds.

I’ve been to “mindfulness events” for executives and corporate, where people claim to let go of their ego only to look down on anyone who is not as “open minded “ as they are.

Overall is another balancing act between our “ego” and “super ego”. But I guess it does “works” for some individuals.

We need to fall to this matter yarely, else we are unraveld. Such acts of terror are not bound by: “ type of weapon”, “nationality”, “circumstances”, etc. Instead of aiming our efforts and resources at the “wrong solutions”, I belive we need to ask first the right questions. We need to boil things down to its most fundamental truths, and reason up from there.

But what exactly is enough? Unless we have a solution to this horrendous problem, the current state of affairs will not subside. Just shouting “ban assult rifles” will not solve the problem. We need an elaborte plan reasoned by principle rather than by analogy.
I can only imagine. Stay safe out there
I was born and raised in Cuba. I lived through Katrina, Wilma, and many others (while in cuba). For the most part, everytime theres any climate discrepancy the primate part of the brain activates -chaos and disorganization arise- Which is, in part related to the amount of casualties. Key things to do: -keep calm -seek higher ground -gather dry food, and non-perishable food (nuts, dry meat, canned fish, etc) -water -detachment of any material things. (Countless lives have been lost because people refuse to let go of their belongings) -dont wait until the last minute to take action.

In Cuba we didn't have nearly a quarter of the resources available in the U.S. We managed to minimize casualties because we kept our cool and didnt give in into despair.

hmm.. Nope. why?
Agree. One of the thoughts that i had was:: even if they say they will pay for it.. would they actually do it when the time comes. I find that a lot of people will say "yes" just to give you a quick answer and call it a day. But thanks nonetheless. Cheers!

Ask HN:Online analytical platform focused on growth metrics?

Sup guys,A friend and I from school have been working a side project for a while, mainly because we needed it. We also have approached different startups and they have agreed on the problem and the solution we offer. We are building an online analytical platform focus on growth metrics (KPI's). Most of our "competitors" (like Chartio) have build a data visualization platform targeted almost...
