I wonder what the statute of limitations is.

How is this any different from businesses who do not have transparent pricing? E.g.: Enterprise SaaS; consultancy; architectural materials.

I forgot David!

This is water.

Ask HN: Who is the inspiration for your thinking?

Leaving broad and vague by design. Who formed your thinking? Philosophers? Business magnates? Ancient wisdom? Or more recent thinking?Socrates to Bill Gates?I'll go first, in no particular order:- The Ancient Stoics- D. T. Suzuki, Thich Nhat Hanh, and other- C G Jung- Alfred Adler- Arthur Schopenhauer- Friedrich Nietzsche- Fyodor Dostoevsky- Franz Kafka- Niccolo Machiavelli (highly...

That's very 2025. Build an agent that does that for you.
Re:Wealth Taxes Could Kill Privately-Owned Companies on Thursday September 24, 2026 @08:00AM (#49829436)
But she would have to do that (borrowing $250m) every year, and the company's cash flow might not be able to sustain the repayment in 12 months; and it the borrowing keeps stacking, then she would have to sell part of the company; and that's the point of the article.
True story #1: whenever we go on vacation, wife and I check rates for Uber and Lyft on both of our phones, and consistently we get different rates up to 15% delta.

True story #2: I am eyeing a nice Seiko watch on Amazon, the price has been oscillating between $296 and $316. Whatever, thinking about waiting for black friday. Then the other day the price jumped to $350; weird.

So, I switched to Firefox, used the VPN to a different US location, checked the watch and the very same watch was $316. It was surreal.

Looking forward to hack it in a way that favors consumers.

The blue zone.
I don't have ADHD, but I do prefer lists to verbose narratives.

I am going to start using this.

Re:The Luxuries in Life on Saturday September 05, 2026 @06:00PM (#49581118)
I can proudly say, that I have got 11.5 of that list.

My #3 is questionable, since work is stressful. It's my bad, I know better. Working on it.

This cames to mind: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Infantilization

And with that also Agency, or lack thereof.

This is sad, very very sad.

Re:Audacity 4.0 on Thursday September 03, 2026 @01:55PM (#49553959)
Sure, why not?

Still a good move, and everyone wins!

Re:Audacity 4.0 on Thursday September 03, 2026 @01:54PM (#49553948)
Good synergy. I use both; I can see them integrated.

I am sure that Suno would love to buy Audacity.
Re:Mamdani Bans AI in NYC Schools on Thursday September 03, 2026 @08:01AM (#49548869)
Parents can still let their kids use AI when/where appropriate (outside the school's official curriculum). There's a lot more to life, growing up, and learning than what politicians do with traditional education.

Agency is key.

My money is that the vast majority of people on this board have been in your exact same spot, including yours truly.

What to do:

a) First and foremost: make finding your next opportunity your full-time job, above and beyond your present full-time job. And take the time to build your professional footprint for your next opportunity too. Let me explain: do you have an online portfolio of your work? If no, start one right now, and maintain it forever. Do you have a blog where you talk about your market/industry/profession; which existing tools are best of breed, which ones can be improved, and which ones are missing? How AI is affecting your market/industry/profession? Publish white papers and case studies. How's your GitHub?

b) Secondly use this opportunity as a training ground for Life. This is Life at its finest, what will make the difference will be your reactions and responses to these events. Read about the ancient Stoics (Epictetus, Marcus Aurelius, Seneca, Cicero), Nietzsche, Schopenhauer, Machiavelli (very misunderstood), Jung. Make this the most consequential job of your Life.

c) Related to b) above, tweak your language paying special attention to the language you use. Just from your title, "Survive" and "hate" are problematic words. Read Shane Parrish's works.

I am not saying that it's easy, quite the opposite. Think of this job as a short-term problem and you are building a long-term solution that will take care of this and much more. In order to be successful, you will need to change your worldviews, your belief systems, and imprints.

I wish you a lot more then dumb luck.

Cold outreach is spam. Period.
Re:Ask HN: What are you working on? (August 2026) on Sunday August 09, 2026 @01:42PM (#49233585)
Working on putting together a self-paced "Coding with AI" course for non-SWE(s).

Since I could not find anything out there, I am scratching my own itch.

Ask HN: How would you learn AI-assisted development from the ground up?

I'm a director/exec, not a software engineer. Background's mostly data analytics, SQL and Excel day to day, some R and PostgreSQL. Years ago I could hack together basic HTML/CSS/PHP too.Got into AI early and now use ChatGPT and Claude constantly. With their help I've built a handful of web apps, some Python scripts and desktop tools, and an Android app on Supabase with real multiple users. So I...
