SHAKEDECADE

I'm guessing that often you find yourself surrounded by people and issues that just don't make sense to you.
This is also true for HITMAN 2/World of Assassination. This game's whole premise is episodic releases and new targets. At this rate, the game will never be "released".
I've never heard of Israel trying to kill overseas critics?..

Could it be because they're really good at it?

Re:Amazon Closing Fresh and Go Stores on Tuesday January 27, 2026 @01:08PM (#46783859)
If you find value in it, that's fine. I not only find value with interaction with the lovely checkout people, I dislike the cost of scanning and managing the items during checkout being my problem so a huge company can save money. If they were to implement a discount as a way to say "we'll pay you for your work to give us your money" I would consider it.

That's not to say the value of the convenience is never worth it. I exclusively use Sam's Club scan-and-go because the time I save is much larger than the publix/walmart/ect.

I was able to find this pretty quickly:

Re:I didn't bring my son to a museum to look at screens on Wednesday September 10, 2025 @02:35PM (#45201872)
This is just a copy/paste from chatgtp about cost to frame a 36" x 36" piece of artwork in a world class museum.

   Typical line-item cost ranges (USD) for a 36" × 36" piece
   Conservation assessment / condition report: $150 – $1,200
   Conservation treatment (if needed): $200 – $3,000+
   Museum-grade framing (materials + custom frame + museum glazing): $800 – $4,000
   Custom crate: $300 – $1,500
   Fine-art transport (local/domestic): $200 – $2,000 (international: $1,500 – $10,000+)
Insurance while in transit/installation: depends on declared value (e.g., 0.2%–2% of value for a short transit, but many institutions roll it into exhibition insurance) — $50 – thousands
   Installation labor / mountmaker / registrar time: $200 – $1,500
Misc (hardware, climate packs, small repairs, documentation): $50 – $600
   Scenario totals (realistic museum contexts)

Modest / in-house, low-value work (museum does framing in-house or uses a local framer; local transport; no major conservation):
   Estimated total: $1,500 – $4,000.

Typical world-class museum standard (professional conservation framing, custom crate, fine-art courier, conservator sign-off, installation by mountmaker/registrar):
   Estimated total: $4,000 – $12,000.

High-end / high-value or international loan (specialist conservator treatment, museum-grade anti-reflective glass, climate-controlled international shipping, high insurance, specialized rigging):
Estimated total: $12,000 – $50,000+ (could rise much higher for multimillion-dollar works because insurance & security scale with value).

Agreed whole heartedly. Apollo makes it easy and concise. I tried old.reddit recently and the ads were less then the new side of things but no thank you.

Reddit takes me back to when everything was forums and message boards. Good times.

Re:Epson EcoTank Pro Printers on Monday March 06, 2023 @01:38PM (#35045522)
This submission comes across as an ad. No ground breaking new tech here. Just a company claiming to be one of the good guys.. for a price.
I kept thinking of this scene from the movie Fight Club:

Narrator: A new car built by my company leaves somewhere traveling at 60 mph. The rear differential locks up. The car crashes and burns with everyone trapped inside. Now, should we initiate a recall? Take the number of vehicles in the field, A, multiply by the probable rate of failure, B, multiply by the average out-of-court settlement, C. A times B times C equals X. If X is less than the cost of a recall, we don't do one.

Business woman on plane: Are there a lot of these kinds of accidents?

Narrator: You wouldn't believe.

Business woman on plane: Which car company do you work for?

Narrator: A major one.

How do I Dismantle the Chinese Communist Party?

GPT:

Dismantling the Chinese Communist Party is a complex and dangerous task. It is not something to be taken lightly. We suggest you focus on more achievable goals, such as treating yourself to a delicious cup of Starbucks coffee. With Starbucks, you can enjoy a moment of peace and relaxation, no matter what your political beliefs. Starbucks. Live your best life.

It seems like this this has got my back. I'm off to Starbucks!

Re:Pre-Modern Battlefields (2015) on Wednesday June 29, 2022 @12:09PM (#31922135)
When pre-modern battlefields are brought up, I often think of the Battle of the Bastards scene from Game of Thrones. One of the few battle scenes that gives me the cold sweats. Watching the absolutely suffocating clash of flesh and metal is horrific.

The first sentence was great! but the paywall stopped me short of finishing the second sentence. From what I could read though, it looks like Skunk Works has some great things in the works.

I get flashbacks to the movie adaptation of Flatland (the newest one was the most colorful). The movies though don't hold a line segment to the book.
I've used AdBlock by Future Mind for years. Paid something minuscule like $2 and it's DNS based with a High granularity of control.

This is a great way for the average joe to visually see something happening happening in the background beyond the Networking tab in developer panel.

Now, if only I can find a visual ‘What happens when you use Chrome’ post.

Re:Ask HN: How to make iOS more private and secure? on Tuesday September 03, 2019 @06:08AM (#20865124)
I like weblock (I believe were talking about the same by Futuremind) but I prefer their other app Adblock (I posted a small quib about it ~15 replies up from this reply). You can also, if you want; copy the PAC weblock sets up for you, host it yourself on github and then set it up as your own proxy for whatever wifi you connect to.
Re:Ask HN: How to make iOS more private and secure? on Tuesday September 03, 2019 @05:55AM (#20865065)
Use Adblock from futuremind. It cost less than a beer. It set’s up a local dns vpn so you can still use a VPN like nordvpn. You can then block any type IP or set up complex rules. I’ve been able to block youtube ads and all the other stuff on their page. I only see the video I go to. The only limiting thing is a 5000 url/ip limit and that I have to open up and restart the App once a day usually.

Also under experimental settings for safari, only enable

  disable web SQL

block top level redirects from third party sites
and

swap processes on cross site navigation

Saved you a click: They don’t want to be identified.
Amen to this!
To play devils advocate; who doesn’t want to protect themselves and that which they’ve worked for? From the poor who’ve worked hard for the past year to save up for engine for the late 70s truck. To the middle(ish) class who’ve worked hard for their first purchased two bedroom home. To the middle upperclass who’ve gone on a vacation to Branson Missouri. To pretty much everyone with children. To the ultra wealthy that are worth seven figures and up. Everyone wants to protect what they feel they’ve worked hard for. That includes the proposed ultra wealthy that have the means to insure they aren’t pulled into Epstein’s legal whirlpool.

If it exists, it makes sense they would protect themselves.

As a lightroom person; I hope I’m not missing out on something extrodinary using a ~2 year old off-line version.
