Do you see any link or relationship between the causes of the Adamuz crash and the causes of this crash?
Re:Websites Should Be Printable on Monday October 26, 2026 @09:13AM (#50243062)
Have you looked into the CSS paged media directives?.

https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/CSS/Guides/Page...

Either they were published with a license compatible with ODbL, or there is written permission from the rights holder to import them into OSM, i strongly doubt it.

In my corner of the world, all official grammar descriptions finish with a sentence like "or another interpretation by bilateral agreement" (where bilateral means between any two vendors using the same "standard").
Re:The Future of CSS on Wednesday October 21, 2026 @05:02AM (#50177871)
If that means having an "HTML+CSS framework" that I could easily swap out for a "Typst framework" and publish my blog using Typst, then sign me up!

Meanwhile, there's Typst bundles [1], still experimental, that implement the same idea backwards: convergint a Typst project into a set of output files (which can be HTML).

Re:I never authorized an integration that scans my secrets on Friday October 16, 2026 @06:00PM (#50125315)
The hash itself is irrelevant.

The question is what PII does HIBP collect on submission (eg IP address), and with whose consent, and for which purposes?

All that should be explained in excruciating detail in the ticket and in the documentation, to begin with.

Re:I never authorized an integration that scans my secrets on Friday October 16, 2026 @05:51PM (#50125236)
Undoing personal information for a purpose different than the purpose for which it was collected.
Re:I never authorized an integration that scans my secrets on Friday October 16, 2026 @04:58PM (#50124595)
I wouldn't be surprised if that integration is outright illegal in EU due to GDPR, thus putting HIBP in trouble for ingesting PII without any legal legitimacy.

And the first reply being "It is not an invasion of privacy" just shows incompetence on privacy topics. It is never a valid answer.

Which is really concerning, for the lead developer of a home automation system that "fights for the fundamental principle of privacy" as per their mission statement.

Why does it show a left-handed guitar on Player view, and a right-handed one on Audience view?
Same here, first time I see that brand.
Re:Questions for Believers in AI Consciousness on Monday October 05, 2026 @05:35PM (#49971148)
If you train a model to say it feels those things, then you are forcing an unconventional definition of the word "feel".

If you satisfy the second part thanks to a suitable harness, then you agree it is not an emergent property of the AI itself, but rather an add-on tacked in.

Re:Questions for Believers in AI Consciousness on Monday October 05, 2026 @03:27PM (#49969332)
Here's one "philosopher" 's test:

Can it feel hunger, thirst, pain, sexual desire, fear, tiredness?

If yes to any of the previous: does it have agency to address and satisfy those feelings?

If yes to any of the previous: is it able to willingly delay instant gratification?

If yes: conscious.

If not: instincts-based being.

Note: you will find it challenging to agree on definitions of the words "feel", "satisfy", "willingly" and probably all the rest.

This bit reminds me of TRON/BTRON, a Japanese OS where a core principle was that users interacted with documents made of fragments which were documents themselves.

"The file and the application were implementation details […] the user-visible primitive on a desktop computer shouldn't be a file or the application, but the typed document part."

Re:US Revokes Limits on Power Plants' Climate Pollution on Sunday September 20, 2026 @03:35PM (#49779230)
The first ever version of the "Greenhouse gas" wikipedia page lists CO₂ as the first such gas (besides water vapor, obviously disregarded).

That page is from 2002.

https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Greenhouse_gas&ol...

Charging rate of 11 kW, with efficiency of about 90%, means that the charger sucks around 12.2 kW of power from the grid, of which 1.2 kW is continually lost*, and only 11 kW is effectively being stored in the battery at any point in time.

I don't understand the mention about battery capacity (80 kWh, which would translate to around 7½ hours of charging at 11 kW, if a battery could charge at a uniform rate) or where the "9 kW lost" figure comes from.

*Which is probably useful to melt snow above the device, when installed outdoors on cold climates.

It's already illegal in Europe, as long as the data falls into the PII category.

European here: always stay in the outermost lane, no matter which exit you're taking. Problem solved.

The inner lanes are only for overtaking.

So a locomotive floats. Interesting.

Is it possible for you to challenge the status quo?

For example, refuse to present anything unless at least three members of the audience agree to share their feedback in the session.

Or alternatively, include in your presentation direct questions to specific members of the audience (either pre-arranged, or spontaneous).

Re:Why is privacy so hard? on Monday September 14, 2026 @03:21AM (#49693105)
Any "legally-binding, two-party transaction" between an individual and a large corporate conglomerate is a lost battle (or more precisely, a not-even-fought battle) for the vast majority of individuals.

80% of buyers of anything simply smash "Accept" (and watch through ads/spam) until their device shows the content they wanted to access. (Statistic is made up, but I think it's hard to refute.)

Do you call that "explicit consent"?

Seems to be in contradiction.
