I can right click my Google Photos folder and download the whole thing as a zip, just tested it and it works fine.

I received a hard drive from Amazon, loose in a large box with some cardboard stuffed on top. Unsurprisingly it was DOA.

Disney has a pretty neat use for RFID that was featured in a previous HN post.

I especially love the feature tick "Push Notifications (coming soon)" as a reason to go for their higher tier subscription.

It's probably not blocked by most websites yet :)
Edit: Scratch that, it's not a new site.

I never actually experienced any rate limiting/blacklisting issues while I ran it. I even tested spamming messages to myself, it worked but upset my iOS notifications a fair bit maybe I just got lucky.
Re:Raspberry Pi becomes best-selling UK computer ever as sales top 5M

I own an original Raspberry Pi model B (still running 24/7 in a project) for which I was on the pre-order from one of the first few batches (I think I just missed out on the first 10,000 or so), I eventually purchased an upgraded model B with 512MB ram and then I instantly purchased the Pi 2.
Very useful things, and the progress made is wonderful.

I've previously ran OSX in a VM to send automated alerts over iMessage. It worked rather well.
Re:Why I Quit OS X – Geoff Wozniak

I got fed up the other week and on a whim switched to Xubuntu on my 2013 MBA and other than no drivers for the PCI based webcam (Apple webcams no longer sit on the USB bus) which I barely used anyway, everything is pretty much fine apart from a few quirks (Trackpad settings and brightness control which were easily fixed). I had a Time Machine backup just in case if I hated it.
If anything after spending years using various distros on servers it makes sense to start using it on the desktop too as it is exactly the same experience I'm used to, with a bonus of a GUI.

I second this, I just switched my MBA to Xubuntu and I'm loving it.

Google Earth Pro seemingly has a fair few customers at the moment so I would assume the free desktop version will stick around for a while.

I used to work on quite a large Flight Sim website a few years back and a lot of our users would do this.
It gets interesting when you have 20+ people in an area because people do not fly as perfectly as shown in any ATC simulator.

Re:Node-iMessage – Query iMessage from terminal and Node.js

That's pretty cool, I never bothered handling actually starting the Messages app because I was just running it in a VM and assumed it would always work on startup.
I don't use this anymore because I've ditched my iPhone.
Re:Node-iMessage – Query iMessage from terminal and Node.js

I wrote a little bash script to allow for the sending of iMessages and made a little API in Node so I could send service status messages across all my devices easily.
It's probably not possible to do this in pure Node but if it's of interest here is the gist: https://gist.github.com/roldershaw/7311547
Now I can see iMessage chatbots being made :P

I saw some posters (I think for West End tickets) on a Southern train a little while back using a .london domain. Though it wasn't prefixed with a www so I wonder how many people didn't recognise it as being a domain name.

I just use a Trello board for my personal todo lists, it's simple and I know it won't be going away anytime soon. You can add attachments, due dates and all sorts of nice little things in a card.
I use it to manage projects with collaborators too so everything is in one place which is nice for me.
