But, on the other hand, I felt that the tone was a little bit strange. Stripe doesn't have to do business with you, or anybody else. It's not offensive to my sensibilities that Stripe has it's own processes and concerns as it relates to it's customers (not to mention regulatory requirements).
And this bit stuck in my craw "..So overnight without warning Stripe had decided to stop us from using their services after 5 days.."
That email was your warning. You did, in fact, get a warning. You got 5 days to change payment processors.
p.s.
Please never come to Arizona. That will remove my last excuse for not going camping (purchasing a bunch of stuff, that I may never use more than once).
Maybe instead just use a floating div to appear, say xyz has been added, and then fade away after a second.
But I cannot understand the low-grade media backlash here. That was my point. It seems like writing an article with the thesis that "whoever is planning crisis management at Snapchat is horrible an needs to go" isn't wildly beyond the pale.
I think the author's point is a good one. If CEO is really so obtuse he should go. If he is being coached to act this way then his coach should be fired[1].
Pretty straight forward business journalism. It's not like the business journalist went on a long diatribe about API security. That would be out of place.
[1]Unless your argument is that in order to criticize a business leader's actions you must outline each of the myriad possible corrective steps between "Do Nothing" and "Terminate".
You don't have to accept that. The general excuse, "Managers man... they suck", is something that really bothers me.
Why not stand up for your idea, insist upon the Yes, IF... and hold management accountable?
Document concerns and don't be shy about raising them. In my experience I have seen people make the assumption that management will not listen and therefor not act more often than I've seen management ignore feedback.
That's not to say that management wouldn't ignore you, or dismiss negativity in favor of the "yes", but the defeatist attitude as it relates to 'management' troubles me.
Again, Michh, not to give you a hard time. Maybe I'm naive.
I'd love something like [0]You can't javascript under pressure, but You can't Query under pressure for SQL. :-)
Not that this isn't interesting, but their hypothetical (hostage situation) would have been a much more intriguing test case. But, since those pictures/videos are rarely taken with super high resolution cameras with good lighting, it's unlikely this technique would be helpful.
Edit: Just to be clear, I think anything new in the form of research and development is generally good. Maybe this work will be built upon to create something great. I just don't like the implied promise that pieces like this make. It oversells what technology can actually do and is, I think, misleading.
Then you also have the benefit from the entrepreneurial side. These posts can serve as a cautionary tale to other would be founders as how not to do customer service.
I think where this crosses the line from inane bitching to useful discourse is the gravity of these issues. It's not like these people are posting with complaints about the page layout of the company or <insert minor nitpick here>. The issue is with the core function of the company, and that's work discussion.
Just my $0.02.
The point I was making is that you cannot use the election of Obama as confirmation that racism is dead. If the argument you make is that "Obama isn't elected if racism exists" you have zero facts behind you.
Giving you the greatest benefit of the doubt you could assert as fact that 28% of the voting eligible population isn't racist. Again, being as generous as possible to your (in my opinion horrible) argument 72% of the voting aged populous may or may not be racist.
That's a FAR cry from "no racism to see here, move along". You simply provide no facts at all to support your position. I grant you that racism is a difficult and nuanced issue, but dismissing it cavalierly is sad.
Regarding Obama's 2012 Election: according to [2]and[3], 62 million of 221 million possible voters cast their ballot for Obama. ~28% of citizens voting for you does not really signal the end of racism in the US.

In what percentage of cases of vandalism that could be called tagging could the person be said to have committed the crime accidentally? Virtually none[1]. This crime is more or less always committed on purpose. Not always with journalistic intent, but still.
The author was punished more harshly because (it seems) he embarrassed people. That is unjust.
Not to mention the generally deplorable conditions in the holding cell where he was kept, filled with other people who presumably were guilty of nothing.
[1]Please. I understand that you could create any scenario in which anything happens. But the vast majority of people who commit a similar crime (spray paint on unowned surface) certainly are doing it on purpose.
The problem is that the only people who seem to benefit from laws being enforced based on their spirit not their letter are white people. Minorities on the other hand don't seem to enjoy the same benefits.
And getting past the issue of faulty heuristics, the authors experience post-arrest was pretty ridiculous.
How is anyone or anything served by treating arrested people like that?
Keeping in mind that hypothetically you are innocent until proven guilty. You should not be punished until you've been convicted of something.
But now, you are pot and I am kettle (or vice versa). Your comment adds no value or, I'd argue less value, because at least I was trying to be funny. </derail>
Up Up Down Down Left Right Left Right B AThis is ridiculous. A very good solution to the "revenge porn" problem is for people to not cavalierly take naked pictures of themselves.
So, I take a naked picture, share it, sharee shares again, <step>, <step>, revenge porn upload.
I am appropriate in my action, and then the propriety drops as the chain goes on. But why is it unfair to say, don't take the pic in the first place and you can avoid what (may) come next.
p.s. According to a sheet I have saved I can download my info as: .xlsx .ods (OpenDocument Format) .pdf .csv .txt .html
Second: But..... You produced something that you all don't seem to really care about. I don't think that you have to be an evangelist to work on a project, but I guess I just don't care as much because this is just an exercise for it's own sake.
Third: and.... I'm reminded of how, in grade school (Primary school...Brits?), we would have contests to sell cheap crap. Either wrapping paper, or knives, or whatever. The entire point of these exercises is to have small children hit up their family and neighbors to sell a bunch of crap so that the kid can win a Huffy. This mainly relies on people feeling bad saying no to a cute (not in my case, but generally) kid. Or like multi-level marketing. Basically you hit up your personal network and then peter out.
The actual product wouldn't involve burning a bunch of fossil fuels.
