I think I see these types of click-bait headlines all the time... and come to think of it, they have very small sample sizes.
Re:Rats Dream About the Places They Want to Explore on Sunday June 28, 2015 @11:17AM (#9793808)
I think you are right on the money here, friend. Whenever I'm purchasing something online, I'm always curious how that transaction will take place... sometimes so much as just "test purchasing" the item to see what will occur if I actually decide to buy.
Whoa.... Keep talking like that and you may get your self nominated to be elected. Keep on being Human bro. I love the spirit.
Re:Zoox, a Robo-Taxi Start-Up Taking on Google and Uber on Thursday May 21, 2015 @04:48AM (#9581607)
Yes and no. Each individual won't have the need or financial incentive to own an individual vehicle like today. There should be less vehicles overall.

Regardless of that, Uber is a mass transit startup, and so is this...

Re:I would have hired Doug, but... on Thursday May 07, 2015 @11:59AM (#9505998)
I am right there with you. I am a little over half way through my 30th year of life. I have "wasted" a lot by having a ton of fun and enjoying myself, while also getting plenty done professionally. I am excited about the future, and also intrigued with this concept of another 30-50 years of productivity, but like you, sometimes I can accept a fate of being 'finished'. It's weird, but not in a morbid way, more like a, "I'm so blessed to have been able to do all this amazing stuff" kind of way.
Re:The Programmer's Dream (A Ramble) on Thursday December 11, 2014 @01:57PM (#8736442)
This ramble made me think of an interview with Steve Jobs - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kYfNvmF0Bqw

Basically - Everything in life is made up of people who are no smarter than you. And you can help shape reality and improve it.

Re:Introducing free voice calls from Hangouts on Wednesday September 10, 2014 @05:25PM (#8299279)
You could have been doing this for some time now. I have by using something like TalkATone or GrooveIp.
Now this is brilliant. I was thinking the same thing, "Man I'd like to play as a real person, before I build a bot." I feel silly now that I didn't think of building a software controller like you did. Also thanks for sharing the code. I'm gonna have to try it out.
Re:How successful are you? on Tuesday April 29, 2014 @10:15AM (#7667090)
I am about to jump from safety of the regular salary, and do something similar. I'll be 30 in a few months and have always wanted to do this. Just curious how did your journey into biz-owner begin, and what was the biggest shock?
Re:So you want to be a consultant? on Thursday April 10, 2014 @11:39AM (#7567107)
Nice work. Are you profitable?
Re:NetJs: A .NET to TypeScript and JavaScript compiler on Thursday April 10, 2014 @11:34AM (#7567049)
Seems pretty neat. Sort of like a GWT for .Net. Except with the added benefit of being able to go into an intermediary form of TypeScript.

I see something like this really being beneficial when building a Single Page Application, or porting a Desktop Application to a SPA.

Re:Machine learning resources on Wednesday April 09, 2014 @12:44PM (#7560459)
OP's HN user name and the websites author are the same.
Re:Why is speed at sea measured in knots? on Wednesday April 09, 2014 @12:19PM (#7560280)
Thank you for this. Any idea why they would 403 visitors from HN?
Re:So you want to be a consultant? on Tuesday April 08, 2014 @03:12PM (#7555329)
You make it sounds super easy. Do you have your own consultancy?
Re:Machine learning resources on Tuesday April 08, 2014 @02:59PM (#7555267)
I'm really digging this information. Thanks for gathering/writing it. I know you didn't solicit requests for the design of your website, but man that right hand side bar is crazy unorthodox and gave me a difficult time with focusing on content. Not trying to cramp your style, just trying to give you some constructive criticism.
tl;dr version -> If you are concerned with the U.S. government seizing your domain get a TLD from Switzerland(.ch)
Re:Show HN: Siri, open the garage on Monday April 07, 2014 @03:24AM (#7545076)
The Imp seems cool, but it's price point (when combined with the breakout board) is higher than a Raspberry Pi and Usb Wifi dongle. Not only is the price higher, the hardware isn't nearly as capable.
Can you point to any information regarding this? I have heard nothing about this.
Please do.... but since you didn't, I'll help:

Betteridge's law of headlines is an adage that states: "Any headline which ends in a question mark can be answered by the word no." It is named after Ian Betteridge, a British technology journalist,[1] although the general concept is much older.[2] The observation has also been called "Davis' law"[3][4] or just the "journalistic principle".[5]

|likely more work than could be completed in Nadella's short tenure.

You are correct. During the build conference there were several mentions of Project Rosyln being a 3-4 year old endeavor.

Re:Rare 'goat-sheep' born on Irish farm on Friday April 04, 2014 @04:11PM (#7534004)
Hacking != Engineering
Re:Rare 'goat-sheep' born on Irish farm on Friday April 04, 2014 @03:48PM (#7533861)
While I find this fascinating, it does seem a bit curious to post this in a hacker forum. I was half way expecting to read that the farmer had been "bio-hacking" trying to come up with a healthy hybrid.
Re:Microsoft Open Sources C# Compiler on Thursday April 03, 2014 @01:54PM (#7524655)
How does something like this happen? How can you write a compiler in the language that it is supposed to be compiling?
Yeah, I am pretty sure that Xamarin compiles down to Obj-C on the iPhone, but on Android it includes a VM in java that runs .net (mono).
Check again. Ejecta doesn't support webGL.
Re:Why Most Unit Testing is Waste [pdf] on Thursday March 06, 2014 @07:29PM (#7357584)
I can't seem to justify writing tests. It is time consuming and cumbersome. I figure as long as I document reasonably well, and the design is straight forward there is no sense is wasting my time to write tests. I'd prefer to get something done instead of supposedly helping my future self(or my employers).
Re:C++ Quiz on Thursday March 06, 2014 @07:24PM (#7357560)
I think this is a pretty fun little quiz engine. I don't speak c++ very often, and was pleased to pass the medium difficulty with reasonable confidence. I looked for a difficult problem, but it looked too hard for me to care about thinking about it right now, but maybe one day.
Re:This Post Took 3 Years to Write on Thursday September 12, 2013 @03:41PM (#6376428)
I felt the same way. And then I signed up with a bogus account, and it wanted an e-mail verification.... Why make me e-mail verify?
