I just asked Claude or codex to do it using uv/uvx and it did it effortlessly and perfectly, I didn't even look at what package(s) it used.
Re:Cleo (Mathematician) on Thursday October 08, 2026 @11:10AM (#50006784)
As a non-mathematician I'm confused by this Wikipedia article. Isn't it trivial to fabricate arbitrarily hard integrals by starting from a function with known values and differentiating it?

I understand that people enjoyed the prank, but I think the article doesn't make it clear enough that he was just trolling and wasn't actually solving hard mathematical problems

Re:SvelteKit 3 Is Here on Thursday October 01, 2026 @06:55PM (#49928021)
In my experience LLMs write better svelte code then React code, as there's fewer footguns (e.g. useEffect is much more brittle in React)

Wow this is just bullying, it's insane that we are letting these people be in charge of the transition

> This is a a Deep Blue-Kasparov moment.

I guess this is true in more ways than one. Kasparov famously accused IBM of cheating during the match, by spying on his preparation.

I think it's because customers don't seem to mind enough to switch.

I really want to support Anthropic because of their commitments to effective altruism, but it's getting harder and harder to justify on technical merits. Sol is just faster, cheaper, and more reliable, and as good as Opus for my use cases

Haven't noticed any issue, the main limitation is the lack of mobile support on Chrome, but that has always been the case.

I'm so grateful for Firefox on Android

All comments here are written as if Situational Awareness blew up, but it seems like it didn't and is up 80% YTD https://nitter.net/tbpn/status/2083226453509030285

All the stuff that it was forced to sell to Citadel is also up ~10%-30% since the sale

Another comment got downvoted for raising this, but I found it interesting that pangram flags large parts of this blog post as AI generated ( https://www.pangram.com/history/b82cdbf4-bdbc-46ea-8315-bd43... ), while earendil denies it: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=49119957

See the classic Gwern post: https://gwern.net/death-note-anonymity

Which quotes Tao on using deliberate disinformation to preserve anonymity.

> …one additional way to gain more anonymity is through deliberate disinformation. For instance, suppose that one reveals 100 independent bits of information about oneself. Ordinarily, this would cost 100 bits of anonymity (assuming that each bit was a priori equally likely to be true or false), by cutting the number of possibilities down by a factor of 2100; but if 5 of these 100 bits (chosen randomly and not revealed in advance) are deliberately falsified, then the number of possibilities increases again by a factor of (100 choose 5) ~ 226, recovering about 26 bits of anonymity.

Intentionally adding writing "tics", scheduling posts to appear between 2am and 6am in your timezone, or pretending to have a different gender/location/age should help a lot in staying pseudonymous for a while longer.

Many deb packages are easily repackaged for arch by the community

This seems to have unblocked Claude Desktop for Linux ( https://code.claude.com/docs/en/desktop-linux )
This is clearly shown in the settings/config (or at least was last time I looked), if people are surprised by this I recommend asking claude code what settings you can tweak

Zope was strongly influenced by Smalltalk

I think Jim Fulton and other authors of Zope originally came from Smalltalk

What's the threshold at which you remove scores from the leaderboard? There were several valid >100 scores earlier today (some mentioned in other comments here)
Re:Deno 2.9 on Thursday June 25, 2026 @01:49PM (#48676928)
That node release was to fix security issues...
Re:Deno 2.9 on Thursday June 25, 2026 @12:58PM (#48676230)
node randomly broke production for us last week https://github.com/nodejs/node/issues/63989 not sure it can be considered "stable and won't break things like this between minor releases"
Re:OpenAI DayBreak – GPT-5.5-Cyber on Tuesday June 23, 2026 @05:38AM (#48642499)
I see a lot of knee-jerk comments to this, but I highly recommend running a scan ( https://openai.com/daybreak/codex-security-plugin/#codex-cli ) in your projects so you can evaluate it yourself. It found a real security issue in a project of mine, with very few false-positives.

Its built-in resume mechanism didn't work after it crashed when running out of my 5 hour session limit, but Claude Code was easily able to resume it 5 hours later reading the session logs and https://openai.com/codex/security/scan.sh

I also don't get it, looks like any other ad
1. Same experience as my non-Linux coworkers, so we can share learnings and processes

2. Scheduled tasks that run locally ( https://support.claude.com/en/articles/13854387-schedule-rec... ) importantly different from Claude Code routines

3. Multiple projects/isolated memories in the same folder

4. Better UI

At the time gwern alleged it was because of Brockman's wife https://old.reddit.com/r/MachineLearning/comments/181o1q4/co...

> it is clear from studies and from what we see with our eyes that ubiquitous sports gambling [...] is mostly predation on people who suffer from addictive behaviors.

> This is not a minor issue. This is so bad that you can pick up the impacts in overall economic distress data.

> the financial consequences of legalized sports betting [...] include a 28% overall increase in bankruptcies (!). [...] a 28% increase in bankruptcies is far more than I would have predicted. The typical adult bankruptcy rate is about 0.16%, so this would mean about 4bps (0.04%)/year of additional bankruptcies, or an over 1% additional chance a typical person goes bankrupt during their lifetime. [...] A bankruptcy is extremely socially expensive, on the order of $200k. That alone is almost triple the profits, and clearly wipes out all the social gains. Legalized online sports betting is currently a deeply, deeply horrible deal.

> [...] there might be a 3% overall increase in domestic violence as the result of legalized sports betting [...] This is a huge direct cost to bear. Domestic violence ruins lives. It also is a huge indicator that this is causing large amounts of distress in various forms, and that those gambling on sports are not making rational or wise consumption decisions.
