No, it sounds like picking winning businesses. Big difference. Warren Buffet has said that he's a business picker, not a stock picker.

Agreed. Apple does this all the time when presenting new products. Of course it's the best/lightest/fastest version of the product. Why would they release a new version that is worse than the previous?
Re:Google Contributor on Friday March 06, 2015 @03:04AM (#9156080)
When I visited wikipedia today, there was a small widget that let me set up a monthly payment. I have never donated before, but I liked the idea of a small monthly amount so I signed up for 3 dollars. Hopefully, they get to keep more of that money by cutting out Google. Bonus: no tracking.
Does anyone know why Chrome uses   (non-breaking-space) before and after inline tags such as anchor and italics? This behavior causes lines to sometime break much sooner than needed.
Does this technology require clear skies/do clouds block the laser?
I hope someone will step up and create a canvas-based html editor to embed in web-pages. The current solution using contentEditable has lots of cross-browser and cross-platform issues. I'd back that.
Re:The Rise of "Logical Punctuation". on Friday May 13, 2011 @08:19AM (#2544356)
"An historic event" is wrong:

An is the form of the indefinite article that is used before a spoken vowel sound: it doesn’t matter how the written word in question is actually spelled. So, we say ‘an honour’, ‘an hour’, or ‘an heir’, for example, because the initial letter ‘h’ in all three words is not actually pronounced. By contrast we say ‘a hair’ or ‘a horse’ because, in these cases, the ‘h’ is pronounced.(http://www.oxforddictionaries.com/page/aoranhistoric/a-histo...)

I agree, but sometimes it makes sense to have a specific order. For example, it makes sense to get history questions in a chronological order. Maybe you should be able to choose. Right now there is a quizorder field that determines the order for a given category.

Thanks. I haven't experienced the problem with the Go-buttons. I will investigate that.

Ask HN: Review my startup, ClueMe

I use ClueMe to refresh things I want to know. For example, after reading on HN that there is a ISO-standard for storing sexes in a database, I made a short note that I repeat regularly. All the entries in the global categories are questions, but around seventy percent of my personal entries are notes. In addition to the general knowledge categories, I have made a group with HTML5 and CSS...

Nice app! I'm not a designer, but I think some of the buttons look disabled. In particular, the "Mark group as read" has gray text on gray background with very little contrast.

I need a favicon. Will you do it for ten bucks?
Re:Google eBooks: E-Reading Takes To The Cloud on Monday December 06, 2010 @12:02PM (#1975878)
The first book I searched for (Guns, Germs and Steel) shows up in the auto suggest, but not in the search results. Disappointing.
Re:Workflowy is to TODO as git is to svn on Wednesday November 24, 2010 @06:34AM (#1937086)
I like Workflowy. However, I'm used to jumping between words using ctrl+arrow keys. When I do that in Workflowy, I'm taken a level up or down. It's very hard to get used to.
Re:Instamania What Makes The Instagram iPhone App So Hot? on Sunday November 21, 2010 @06:02PM (#1928145)
The author doesn't mention what I think is a factor: a good name. I think its a portemanteau of instant and telegram. The word "telegram" has a old school charm. At the same time it conveys the purpose of the app.
Re:Ask HN: Please rate our startup Neetly on Thursday November 18, 2010 @11:54AM (#1918377)
I agree. It's good that you can change the default, but the default needs to be better. Design matters.

Number 2: I don't think high-end restaurants want to show images of their dishes. For some reason it does not seem classy. Perhaps that's not an issue for the low/medium range.
Re:2010 Nobel Prize for Peace Awarded to Liu Xiaobo on Friday October 08, 2010 @12:04PM (#1772093)
When Dalai Lama received the prize in 1989, the relationship between Norway and China became ice cold for a few years. Then everything went back to normal. Presumably, that will be the turn of events this time as well.
Re:Ask HN: How do you take notes? on Saturday October 02, 2010 @02:36PM (#1751043)
I use a program I created called ClueMe (http://www.clueme.no). If I want to remember something I create a question or a note and add it to a list. Every day I repeat five to ten questions/notes. Works for me. I havent done a complete english translation, but will some day.
Re:Kindle for the Web on Tuesday September 28, 2010 @11:24AM (#1735941)
Does anyone know why they won't release full books on the web? Seems like the demand would be strong.
