Merry Christmas and happy new year. It's been a tough year with stress about work, immigration, family. This little corner of the internet always gives me joy, hope, and inspiration to work for a better, kinder world.
Hope everyone enjoy the break and start 2026 with energy to keep improving yourself and the world.

We are married so are there steps we can take to decrease the chance of them "connect" her to me? Should we avoid crossing the border together?
Hello, I'm currently on an H1B waiting on my priority date (I'm Canadian but born in China), my H1B hits the 6 year mark next year. My wife is currently on a TN which expires next year.
Should she switch to H4 EAD under my H1B instead of renewing her TN?
just a heads up that the bloomberg url is cut off.
I saw the post on using AWS to play games too. Used it to play the division for a while. Glad to see a service being built for this.
Signed up and will be trying it out this weekend.
Toronto is certainly growing and certainly the most ambitious and challenging city in Canada. However it's not near the level of Bay Area or even NYC for tech. There's a small community that you can be a part of but the general feeling of energy isn't there.
Hey, don't be too hard on your self. I failed interviews from Big 4 and a lot of other startups too. There are tons of false negatives as a part of the interview process.
Just focus on yourself and your job.
Are you open to relocating to the US? I'd be happy to chat with you about openings.
Guessing its Front End Application Development
If you switch jobs you'll have to apply to a new TN visa at the border.
Fellow Canadian that's been in the USA for the past 4 years.
Hi Peter,
My wife and I are Canadians working in California on TN visas. I'm at a small startup that doesn't sponsor H1-B but I might start my own business in the future.
Should I look switching to a larger company in order to get H1-B so I have the freedom start my company?
Thanks for doing this AMA.

It was a big surprise to receive that in the mail. Wasn't sure if it was a joke or serious but after looking for it on Google maps I think I have a future trip planned.

Last year I just moved to San Francisco and attended. I had a great time meeting a lot of people with various interests. Huge thanks to Matt for doing this again.
For me:

Clojure
Android
JQuery
Improve my Japanese/Mandarin
it is for me and i hate it. It's as annoying as when facebook added the right side events bar and throw the news feed off center.

Thanks again to Matt for hosting this event. Good luck with SwigMe.com
